Greetings ,
I needed to go to Frankfurt and do a few things. However, I made a couple of mistakes.
The first mistake was the time I went. Did I go during a workday? No, I chose to go on a Saturday afternoon.
The city was full of people. The pleasant spring day didn't help - the streets were packed (1).
I got off the train, went to the bank, and used the ATM.
My next stop was the bookshop. I needed to buy a birthday card for a nephew. It was going to be a few days late, as I should have bought it the last time I was in the city. However, I forgot.
I love bookshops, and I nearly took some time to look around. Nevertheless, I didn't let myself stop, as I wasn't sure what time another place I needed to go closed.
Having bought the birthday card, I headed out to my next stop. Except I saw another shop that I wanted to look through. I walked across the street and browsed (2) for a while. Nothing was super interesting, so I moved on.
Arriving at the next place, I was glad it was open. I checked the sign on the door and walked in.
In this place they've installed a system where you take a number; the shop assistants then help people in order. I took a number, then found what I wanted.
While I was waiting for my number to be called so that I could pay, a church clock started chiming. One of the assistants made a comment about the time and locked the shop door. They were only open until four o'clock, and I arrived about ten minutes before that. Going into the other shop was a mistake - it nearly made me too late for this one!
But everything worked. I went to the final shop, bought what I needed, and then made it back to my town in time to go to the post office and post the birthday card.
Clearly it's easy for me to lose focus. Are you like that, too, ? Do you sometimes do something you hadn't planned and it means you have to change all your plans?
Enjoy the spring weather!
Andrea
(1) packed - informal word for 'very full'
(2) browsed - looked around to see if there was anything I wanted to buy
