Howdy ,
In spring, I'm going on a walking holiday and, at times, I'll be in natural areas.
I haven't spent much time in nature in Germany. I've done a few walks in my area, then last year I saw some wild places in other regions. It's been a lovely experience; walking through forests or along paths in grassy open areas.
As I've walked, the only wildlife (1) I've seen is birds. No, last week I saw a couple of big green frogs and in the past I've seen squirrels. Anyway, I haven't seen anything that is big enough to hurt me.
But, people say two things could be a problem if I meet them in the forest: deer and wild boar (2).
Now, I don't know, but I expect (3) that both of these will hear me coming before I get too close, and run away.
I think that's what happened last year. I was walking along a path and heard a snort (4) and movement in the bushes ahead of me. Unfortunately, the animal was gone before I had the chance to see anything.
And I was curious (5) - I would like to have seen what it was.
However, people say that when wild boar have babies, they can get very protective and will attack things they think are a danger. That includes people. The walk I did last year was in October - in autumn.
Spring is usually the time when wild animals have their babies.
The walk I'm about to do is in spring. The baby geese are out by the river, so I guess the baby wild boar are running around in the forests.
To tell you the truth, I would like to see them. Baby animals are so cute! I don't think wild boar would be any different.
But, I don't want to be in a dangerous situation. Being attacked by an angry mother pig wouldn't be fun!
I guess I'll have to make a lot of noise so that they hear me coming and disappear.
So, , how dangerous is it reallly? Do you think I'll see wild boar or deer? Do you have any advice for what I should do if I see some?
Happy Easter,
Andrea
(1) wildlife - animals that are wild, not pets or farm animals
(2) wild boar - pigs that don't come from farms, that live in wild places.
(3) expect - what I think will happen
(4) snort - one of the sounds animals (and people) make
(5) curious - want to know, have questions about it
