🛵 Get new gear if you’re uncomfortable or it’s inconvenient

Hey !!

Y’all know I am mostly an ATGATT rider, but those moments when I don’t want to throw on gear for the 1 mile trip to a grocery store has shown me something.

9 times out of 10 when I don’t wanna put something on, it’s not my fault. It’s the gear.

It’s restrictive.

I’m not talking about the helmet. If I feel like I can’t move, no go.

When shopping, make sure that you’re picking something that fits well & even better - is adjustable!

My jacket & overpants have extra straps around that I can loosen or tighten based on what I have underneath.

It’s Hot. It’s Cold. Pick your seasonal issue.

Somehow it’s supposed to hit the 80s again where I’m at. The high is in the 60s today.

Weather is all over the place, and part of being outside means enjoying the outside, right?

Just buy gear that is flexible. Zip in/out liners. Mesh abrasion resistant fabric. Layers. Heated all-the-things.

Plus - Buy gear that protects in an accident but also the day-to-day elements. The hubs only wears his mesh jacket in August after a day working outside because that sun beating down on his arms gets to be overkill by the time he makes it home.

You have a ton of options, and you don’t have to buy it all at once.

It’s expensive.

I buy clothes that are staples that will last me YEARS. For work. For play. All of it. You won’t find fast fashion in my closet, and the only t-shirts I have are those that are sent to me.

Your gear is the same way. The jacket I wear 95% of the time I’m riding is the same one I’ve had since 2019. Same with my overpants. I have expanded for better looking options & to test things out for y’all, but this stuff lasts. The only thing I’ve replaced recently is my boots. The grip just wasn’t there, but they were not motorcycle specific boots.

And while I don’t talk about finances normally, I have a transportation line item in our budget. We both have our scooters for our primary, and our car is jointly used for the family.

Having gear to get us where we need to go is as important to us as the tires on that car. Spend wisely, but spend it if you need something for your piece of mind.

I keep my gear page updated with value in mind here, so as you start thinking of spring riding think about your gear closet, too.

Be seen & be safe, scooter friend! ♥

Take care,

~Renee (aka Scooter Newbie)

PS: Anyone thinking about the Crescent City Crawl in NOLA 3/16-3/19?
