1) Job. J’ai eu une mission courte de 25 jours en tant que DPO pour un projet au SPF Santé publique. J’ai vraiment adoré.

Je voulais envoyer cette 4è newsletter début Avril mais j’ai été pris par un job intense de 3 mois chez Toyota et un été très sportif.En tout cas je tiens ma promesse de 4 newsletters par an mais là 10 mois après la 003 c’est un peu long.

2) Conférence

La conférence au magasin TRAKKS à Uccle se déroule semaine prochaine jeudi 13 Octobre. Cette conférence sera en Français et comportera le premier film, un slideshow de 2 expéditions et des projets de l’été passé. Cette conférence sera annulée si trop peu d’inscriptions, donc il faut s’inscrire si vous comptez venir. Le réalisateur Ivan Dunsmore sera également présent.

Je suis en train de préparer un autre event plus ambitieux avec un film documentaire Australien que je veux projeter à Bruxelles. Cette projection se fera dans le cadre des MeetExplorers Nights qui viseront à grandir la newsletter afin de développer le BRAFF (Brussels Adventure Film Festival). 3) Film & Festivals.

Justement, ce premier film The Mad Belgian: Keep Walking a été sélectionné dans 8 festivals internationaux dont le prestigieux festival de montagne de Trento (plus ancien festival de montagne au monde qui était à sa 70è édition)

La série The Mad Belgian comptera 4 films. Le 2è (Confined in My Tent - TRAILER) a été réalisé également par Ivan Dunsmore (MeetExplorers comme Production) et terminé en Avril.

Cet été j’ai été à Lyon interviewer une personne rencontrée sur la HRP et je peux donc commencer à écrire et monter le 3è film (Pyrénées) et le 4è film (Laponie) qui j’espère seront terminés bien avant fin 2022.

4) Expéditions et Challenges

Le défi Confined in My Tent fait à Tournai a permis de récolter +6000€ pour VivaForLife. Merci à tous les donateurs et aux personnes qui sont venues me rendre visite.

Année sportive, j’ai réalisé mon meilleur temps avec 1h45 aux 20 km de Bruxelles et je me suis entraîné tout l’été à courir pour réaliser mon premier marathon. Parcours difficile car c’est plus un trail avec la boue, les cailloux, la météo et surtout 1100m de dénivelé ce qui fait un équivalent de 52km. J’ai terminé en exactement 5h00.

Cet été j’ai également fait 2 randonnées connues en autonomie complète dont un record de vitesse.

• 4 jours et 16h pour le tour du mont blanc, le TMB.
• 4 jours et 20h pour le GR70 chemin de Stevenson

J’essaye de contacter la ville de Bruxelles afin de faire le défi Confined in My Tent II au cinquantenaire de Bruxelles en décembre. Tout contact direct est appréciable.

5) Projets 2023 

Expédition en 2023 ? Par contre j'ai toujours le défi de faire en juin une traversée de la Belgique à vélo du point le plus bas au point le plus haut en passant par le centre géographique. Idées sponsors bienvenus. J’ai rencontré Willy Huyse, fils d’Omer Huyse (vainqueur de la plus longue étape du tour de France) qui a fait les titres en 1924. Une exposition est en préparation pour 2024 et je veux y ajouter le film de ma traversée.

Chaque année, j’essaye de gravir un sommet. En 2023 je veux faire le Kilimandjaro. Qui est motivé?

6) Astronaute.

Je n’ai pas été retenu par l'ESA pour poursuivre le processus de recrutement d’astronaute. J’aurai essayé. Pas de regret. Le bon côté des choses c’est qu’être évincé au tout début évite d’être très déçu de ne pas être retenu à la dernière étape après avoir donné temps et argent dans un long processus.

7) Divers

• 20 ans que je suis plongeur: 30/06/2002
• 10 ans que j’ai pu porter la flamme Olympique
• 10 ans de l’expédition Poland Trek.

Je suis beaucoup plus actif sur Instagram et comme je professionnalise mon compte, j’arrête de suivre les amis car c’est une façon de les protéger et de ne suivre que des comptes liés à l’aventure ou médias.

Jane Goodall

J’ai participé (1er dimanche de Février) à la plantation d'arbres comme chaque année au Forest in One Day du Jane Goodall Institute Belgium. Venez en 2023.

Jane Goodall sera présente en Belgique les 2 et 3 décembre pour une conférence et son gala.

TinyOffice

Je planche depuis quelques années sur une petite remorque comme une TinyHouse qui serait un TinyOffice (6 m²) de moins de 750 kg en visant max 500 kgs. En étant plus petit et donc plus léger, on réduit le coût du fuel, immatriculation, assurance et on évite le contrôle technique. Dès que j’ai des plans et un coût je vais faire appel aux personnes (et entreprises) intéressées afin de diminuer les coûts en faisant une petite série. Avec un TinyOffice on a un bureau, un stand, un magasin…

1) Job. I had a short assignment of 25 days as DPO for a project at the FGOV Public Health. I really enjoyed it. I wanted to send this 4th newsletter at the beginning of April but I was caught up in an intense 3 month job at Toyota and a very sporty summer, so I'm keeping my promise of 4 newsletters per year but 10 months after 003 is a bit long.

2) Conference

The conference at the TRAKKS shop in Uccle takes place next week on Thursday 13 October. This conference will be in French and will include the first film, a slideshow of 2 expeditions and projects of the past summer. This conference will be cancelled if there are not enough registrations, so please register if you plan to come. Registration here (conference in French only).

The director Ivan Dunsmore will also be present.

I am preparing another more ambitious event with an Australian documentary film that I want to screen in Brussels. This screening will be part of the MeetExplorers Nights which will aim to grow the newsletter to develop the BRAFF (Brussels Adventure Film Festival). 3) Film & Festivals.

This first film The Mad Belgian: Keep Walking has been selected in 8 international festivals, including the prestigious Trento Mountain Festival (the oldest mountain festival in the world which was in its 70th edition)

The Mad Belgian series will consist of 4 films. The 2nd one (Confined in My Tent - TRAILER) was also directed by Ivan Dunsmore (MeetExplorers as Production) and finished in April.

This summer I went to Lyon to interview a person I met on the HRP so I can start writing and editing the 3rd film (Pyrenees) and the 4th film (Lapland) which I hope will be finished well before the end of 2022. 

4) Expeditions and Challenges

The Confined in My Tent challenge done in Tournai raised +6000€ for VivaForLife. Thanks to all the donors and people who came to visit me.

Sporting year, I achieved my best time with 1h45 at the 20 km of Brussels and I trained all summer to run my first marathon. It was a difficult race because it was more of a trail with mud, rocks, bad weather and especially 1100m of elevation gain which is the equivalent of 52km. I finished in exactly 5 hours.

This summer I also did 2 known hikes in complete autonomy, including a speed record.

• 4 days and 16 hours for the Tour du Mont Blanc, the TMB.
• 4 days and 20h for the GR70 Stevenson trail

I am trying to contact the city of Brussels to do the Confined in My Tent II challenge at the Brussels jubilee park in December. Any direct contact is appreciated.

5) 2023 projects 

Expedition in 2023? Normally not. However, I still have the challenge to cycle across Belgium from the lowest to the highest point, passing through the geographical centre, in June. Ideas for sponsors are welcome.

I met Willy Huyse, son of Omer Huyse (winner of the longest stage of the Tour de France) who made the titles in 1924. An exhibition is being prepared for 2024 and I want to add the film of my crossing to it.

Every year I try to climb a summit. In 2023 I want to climb Kilimanjaro. Who is motivated?

6) Astronaut.

I was not selected by ESA to continue the astronaut recruitment process. I have tried. No regrets. The good thing is that being rejected at the very beginning avoids the disappointment of not being selected at the last stage after having given time and money in a long process.

7) Miscellaneous

Anniversaries:

• 20 years as a diver: 30/06/2002
• 10 years I was able to carry the Olympic flame
• 10 years of the Poland Trek expedition.

I'm much more active on Instagram and as I professionalize my account, I stop following friends as it's a way of protecting them and only follow adventure or media related accounts.

I participated (1st Sunday of February) to the tree planting event as every year at the Jane Goodall Institute Belgium's Forest in One Day. Coming in 2023?

TinyOffice

I have been working for a few years on a small trailer like a TinyHouse which would be a TinyOffice (6 m²) of less than 750 kgs aiming at 500 kgs max. By being smaller and therefore lighter, we reduce the cost of fuel, registration, insurance and we avoid the technical control. As soon as I have plans and a cost I will call on interested people (and companies) in order to reduce costs by making a small series. With a TinyOffice you have an office, a stand, a shop...
