Happiness, Money, Intensity

Hi everyone,

Thanks for joining me today. Here are some links that I've found recently that revolve around the themes I highlighted in the subject - on happiness, money, and intensity. Have a great week ahead.

Something I Wrote Recently

Carro: Solving the Lemon Problem: What's the problem with buying used cars? It's an article about a startup I wrote recently through the lens of the Lemon Problem, which I hope makes it more relatable to anyone outside the world of tech and startups. In case you missed it, I now have a Substack where I write monthly on startups in Southeast Asia - check it out here.

Interesting Reads

What Makes You Happy: "A weird thing in life is that everyone strives for a good life because they think it will make them happy. But what actually brings happiness is the contrast between what you have now and whatever you were just doing."

A lesson that you'll remember through great storytelling - happiness is expectations minus reality.

When The Money's Too Good: "Worse, the more you succeed at how you’re paying the bills, the harder it will be to go back to what you were trying to fund doing! You almost want to have mediocre success in your bill-paying pursuit just so you give up on it and get back to THE ART as soon as possible. [...] Be careful what you do to pay the bills. You might just succeed at it."

This is a scary thought, and one that I'm thinking about right now. Pursuing your passion on the side, waiting for the right moment to go all-in, might mean that moment never comes.

Kobe Bryant: Kobe was my favourite NBA player because there was this degree of intensity to him that you didn't see elsewhere. Here are some notes from an interview that Kobe did before he passed.
