🎃🍁 What do Halloween, Edith Wharton and Doctor Who all have in common?

Hi !

Happy Halloween! I hope yours is a fun one. Since October is my favorite month, it only seemed fitting to send my first ever newsletter on Halloween. I love October. It’s got that fall crispness, the leaves are changing, and everything just feels right.

I’m someone who’s always loved to travel and explore. But as with so many things, the pandemic has made me see travel in a new light. It’s reminded me to slow down and appreciate what’s nearby. This month, my partner and I took a short road trip up to northern Connecticut. We stayed in a really cool mansion built in the early 1900s, and I even got some work done on my current work-in-progress. Here’s a never-before-seen photo of me working on my novel's outline in the front parlor.

We also visited Edith Wharton’s house in the Berkshires. She’s on of those authors whose voice is so distinct and lively, she’s impossible to put down. Unsurprisingly, she was pretty awesome. My favorite tidbit from the guided tour was that she wrote all her novels in bed, starting at six in the morning, and let her dogs run all over her while she wrote. Check out her bedroom (nothing is original but recreated to resemble how it looked)…

This year, Halloween is even more exciting than usual because the new Doctor Who season starts! Watching the premiere constitutes my big Halloween plans. If you haven’t seen the trailer, give it a look…

You may have surmised by now that I’m a big Doctor Who fan. But why? My favorite thing about the show is its limitlessness. You never know where or when the next story will take you! I love how it explores all types of sociopolitical situations and themes, especially in the most recent series. That’s something my own work often finds ways to explore.

The other cool thing about Doctor Who is how the show has built-in change. Since the Doctor can regenerate, the show can always become something different to stay current. This season will be the final one for the current Doctor, so I’m especially looking forward to how they handle it and where it goes next.

So, you know what I’ll be up to for Halloween. What about you—what are your Halloween plans? Do you celebrate any other holidays around this time? I’d love to know! Just hit reply to this email.

As always, if you’re not enjoying this newsletter any longer and want to unsubscribe, don’t hesitate to do so. Totally get it! :)
