To space, or not to space?

To the stars

Hi ,

So, how far would you go on a wing and a prayer?

Being a sci-fi writer I like to keep up with the "science" as much as the "fiction". To that end, I've been reading a manual on the Apollo space flights. It's incredible to learn how mcuh science goes into space travel. To demonstrate, did you know that you can't "fly" a spacecraft? Even though astronauts are weightless, gravity is having an affect on them at all times?

And yet so many things onboard, the "tech" side seems downright premature by todays standards. A lot of early deep space travel was on a wing and a prayer.

As a thought experiment I like to extend that interest in space and wonder what steps we would have to follow in order to become like how we're depicted in fiction? I'd like to think we'd become more enlightened as depicted in Star Trek, but I think my chips are going to be with the Expanse.

If we ever return to the stars, what part of the galaxy would you like to see explored? And what's one of your favourite sci-fi universes?

There's plenty of books here to peruse set in the vastness of space or the forests of fantasy land. Check it out -
