UK Money Bloggers Reverse Advent Calendar
This year, once more, I will be taking part in a Reverse Advent where I will be putting one item for each day of November in a box, for the local food bank, initiated by the UKMB Join our Foodbank Advent campaign with a reverse advent calendar – UK Money Bloggers
Dived into Lidl on the way back from somewhere else today to get the rest of the items for my Reverse Advent box and I'll be photographing those in the next few days to publicise the campaign in the hope I can encourage others to join in.
Netflix
When I can't sleep, I'm often up until 6am and frequently end up watching Netflix. Having watched Squid Games, Netflix is recommending other Korean shows and I started watching Hellbound this week. It's even more violent than Squid Games, and I'm not completely sure if I like it enough to carry on watching it yet. So far there is a religious story line too, and as an atheist, I'm not overly keen on those.
I'm also watching Breaking Bad, VERY late to the starting line. I'm loving that and am rooting for Walter, although I understand that that might change as the series progress. My friends are waggling their eyebrows at me and not giving anything away!
A third one is Maid, I'm also enjoying that, although haven't watched an episode for a couple of weeks now.
Plus there are the films. Watched Jumanji The Next Level recently. Dwayne Johnson really makes me laugh. I snorted when he did his 'smouldering' look.
Elliptical Bike
I've been seeing the local NHS physiotherapist about my arthritic knee and she's been encouraging me to get a stationery bike. But I'm not very keen on cycling, so on browsing Facebook Marketplace, when I spotted a gym quality elliptical machine, I pounced. It was EXTREMELY heavy, and wouldn't fit in the back of Mike's truck anyway. And with a dodgy knee apiece, we would never have managed to get it up the stairs and round the bend halfway up.
So I found a couple of strong young men with a van and they whisked it from there to here and struggled up the stairs with it. They were Greek and lived in Brighton, which is quite a way from here. Lovely chaps.
We were in the press this week chaps
We were in the Express online this week.
Lots of members have joined having seen us there, so hello and welcome to all of them.
The journalist was very interested in the living on 50p post and wrote her article around it. It is, amazingly, possible to live on 50p a day, and eat well.
I wouldn't necessarily recommend it long term as it may prove difficult to get all the nutrients you need. But if you are in the position of having to do that, I hope I can suggest lots of ideas so that at least you can have something delicious every day.
If you'd like to see the article, it's here.

Not sure how I feel about called a pensioner! I know I am, but I don't like being reminded!
Tomato Dhal & Rice or Couscous
This recipe is one of the ones I have recently re-made so I can photograph it for the ebook of Meal Plan 2. It's all coming along well and I'm enjoying revisiting recipes I wrote a long time ago, although not so much updating all those posts!
We don't have any rice on Meal Plan 2, so I made it using couscous, which we do have and it works really well. Most people have rice in the cupboard, so just use that if you prefer.
Salted Cashew Vegan Couscous Salad
This is another Meal Plan 2 recipe, although I haven't re-made this one yet, so the picture could be better. I've refreshed the post, but need to re-photograph it still.
It's very easy to make and you get a nice big portion. Lovely warm when the weather is cooler, like now. You can add all kinds of bits and pieces to a couscous salad. Red peppers from a jar are good.
Carrot Jam
Now this is a brand new recipe that I made up one day. I was looking at the leftovers from Meal Plan 2 and thought that I could squeeze another day from them, and this recipe was born!
This jam is delightfully fresh and I really like it. I've even made it using swede instead of carrot and I bet you wouldn't be able to say what it was if you didn't know! The swede version has a delightful slightly bitter edge, a bit like marmalade does.
An e-book
I published an ebook for meal plan 1 in August and am delighted that many people have thought it was worth getting.
I've managed to get my head around WooCommerce so I can feature it on the blog and you can find it here. It's also on Amazon, but I'm not allowed to include links to there in a newsletter. No idea why!
I'm busy recooking, photographing and updating the recipes for Meal Plan 2 and putting them into an ebook. It was written in 2013 and still prices up, which is fabulous. But the posts are embarrassingly bad and need a lot of updating! I'm getting on well with them again, having taken a break to do other things.
Do come and say hello on the Fantastically Frugal Food Facebook group, or the Sensational Slimming Sustenance group. I'd love to see you. Lots of useful tips, recipes and ideas. The nearly 17,000 membership are brilliant, brimming with talent.
And don't forget Thrifty Lesley, where there are 800+ recipes of fantastically frugal food and many weekly meal plans. And Cheap Family Recipes where you can find all kinds of delicious things that don't cost much, with two family monthly meal plans.
I've also got a few YouTube videos up, not many yet, but I'm planning to do more. I've done a couple more, need to edit them now. So much to do, so little time!
With all best wishes, until next time
