New Garden Bed
We have all the new plants now, and I put them all in this week. Really looking forward to watching them mature.
An evergreen geranium which I hadn't heard of before
It's difficult to capture the whole bed in an image, and I can't show the full affect. I need to get some bulbs to put in now, and run some lily of the valley through too. It's going to be lovely!
Using Barley
I had the Cooking Up A Storm group round recently and we made 3 different risotti. One of the things we made was a mushroom and spinach risotto, using barley. Really delicious. I used a Knorr beef stock pot for it, which added masses of flavour, so not sure what it would be like using something else.
I'll write up the recipe shortly and post it. It had a wonderful, really deep flavour.
Leftovers
Used the remains of a takeaway today to make some lovely soup. This was left in a container.
So I added some red lentils and water, and a bit of salt and pepper, then simmered for 20 minutes.
This was the result - my lunch, plus another 3 bowls for another day. Was really good. Leftover Indian takeaway food adds so much flavour to whatever you add it to.
Christmas fun
Got some small pieces of Christmas themed fabric this week. I'm hoping to be able to make some tree ornaments with it. Got a couple of ideas, I'll keep you posted as to what happens!
If I can find the time, I'd like to do an Advent series of posts with something fun or edible for each day. This could be one of them. If it works!
Cream Cheese Pizza
With a little adjusting, I have made enough calories available to have an 8th day on Meal Plan 2 – which brings the cost down even further! Very pleased with that. This is dinner on day 8 - a pizza with tomato, cream cheese, black olives, peas and onion. Was very nice
Curried Pumpkin & Coconut Soup
This is a fairly recent invention. I've called it pumpkin, but I usually use a butternut squash as pumpkins, other than those very watery Halloween carving ones, aren't usually to be found in supermarkets.
The Cookalong group of which I'm a member are going to do soups next time. We will each bring a hot flask of soup, and the recipe, and each try everybody else's. I think I might take this one as my contribution.
An e-book
I published the ebook for meal plan 1 in August and am delighted that many people have thought it was worth getting.
I've managed to get my head around WooCommerce so I can feature it on the blog and you can find it here. It's also on Amazon, but I'm not allowed to include links to there in a newsletter. No idea why!
That's it for this time, I wasn't sure what I was going to talk about, but I seem to have wittered on sufficiently!
Do come and say hello on the Fantastically Frugal Food Facebook group, or the Sensational Slimming Sustenance group. I'd love to see you. Lots of useful tips, recipes and ideas. The nearly 17,000 membership are brilliant, brimming with talent.
And don't forget Thrifty Lesley, where there are 800+ recipes of fantastically frugal food and many weekly meal plans. And Cheap Family Recipes where you can find all kinds of delicious things that don't cost much, with two family monthly meal plans.
I've also got a few YouTube videos up, not many yet, but I'm planning to do more. I've done a couple more, need to edit them now. So much to do, so little time!
With all best wishes, until next time
