So, here we are again. I'm a bit late this week, I was supposed to send this out on Sunday, but it's Tuesday already. Where do all the days go! Several blogging colleagues send a newsletter every week - I'd never manage that!

Hair cuts

Had my second haircut since March today. I've kept quite a bit of the extra lockdown length, lots of people are doing the same apparently

The hairdresser gets such a lovely curl at the back that I can never reproduce at home. A hairdresser said to me many years ago 'I like doing your hair Lesley, it does whatever you want it to'. I replied that 'it might do whatever you want it to!'

I think you can see a little of the curl in the reflection

Poached pears

I was browsing the supermarket a couple of weeks ago and saw a tin of pears. That got me wondering if a super easy way of having poached pears is to use tinned ones, reducing the liquid down to a nice syrupy sauce with a bit of spice added. Needless to say, I bought a tin and I shall be trying that to see if it works - watch this space

I didn't have a cauliflower when I next wanted to make these, so used broccoli instead and was very pleased with the outcome.

I knew it would be nice!

Home made sloe and apple jam

image

Make the most of this seasonal treat by making a few pots of wonderful jam. It's wonderfully, deeply, plummy. Gorgeous stuff

I'd not made anything with sloes before, so just made 3 and half pots with 450g of sloes. I'll definitely be making more next year! I used half sloes, and half Scrumptious apples from the garden. Scrumptious are a self fertile eating apple, but have a crisp and slightly tart flavour, so are great for cooking too
