Singing with the Cake and Wine Club Choir
The rather wonderful choir I am in (full of lovely people) held a fundraiser for the hospice that my daughter was in. We sang at a local church at a ticketed event and I discovered today that we raised £1,105.87. A goodly sum of money to donate. I'm so pleased for the hospice. It is typical of the people in the choir to take the cause to their heart, as another member said, it's a room full of love.
We sang on Saturday at the East Dean market on what turned out to be a perfect day weather wise. Warm, sunny, and no blimmin' rain!
On the last Wednesday of every month, a local pub, the Runt in Tun, has an Open Mic Night and some members of the choir have taken to going. Last time, I thought I'd join them. And what a fun night it was. I don't drink, even a couple of sips will give me a migraine, so I don't even get the hangover that a couple of people definitely had the following day :)
The organiser knew how talented our choir leader is and got her to get up and do a few numbers. I joined in doing Oh Lord, Won't You Buy Me a Mercedes Benz, and Fat Bottomed Girls. Then Angela, our choir leader, led a jam session of a couple of singers and dragged two guitar players back on stage. It was a great night, I'll def be going next time!
Easter
I'm writing this on Easter Monday and the weather is not too bad, a few little showers here and there. I hope you enjoyed whatever plans you had. I didn't do any chocolate eggs at all this year. I shouldn't eat chocolate as it keeps me awake and gives me a migraine if I have certain types (yes another trigger) so I opted out altogether.
Going to see Mum
Last week me and Mike drove 125 miles up to Northampton to see my Mum who lives with my sister. It's lovely to know that she is looked after. So many of my friends spend a lot of time looking after their parents. She is looking very well and will be an incredible 97 years old in not very long.
I hope I do that well!
Recipes this time include a very economical fritter using mushy peas. I found lots of different ways of flavouring them - a super simple lunch of mushrooms on toast - and another couple of recipes from our sister site, chocolate truffles and a lemon cheesecake.
Pea-Crumb Fritters
Did one of my very favourite things a while ago now and had a play in the kitchen, ended up with these pea-crumb fritters.
I tried several different flavourings during my play. The first was 2 tblsps vinegar from a jar of ancient pickled onions. The resultant fritter tasted very mildly piquant, barely noticeable. I felt that they would benefit from something acidic, so tried a good squeeze of lemon juice in the next one. Ok, but not hitting the spot. Next up was a tsp of mild curry powder. That one was really good. As was the final one that had a heaped tsp of grainy mustard. My favourite one.

I published an ebook for meal plan 1 in August 2021 and am delighted that many people have thought it was worth getting. I repriced it again in June 2022 and it was still holding on, even in these scary times. Now we are in September and prices have shifted again and I've managed to get my head around WooCommerce so I can feature it on the blog and you can find it here.
I was busy recooking, photographing and updating the recipes for Meal Plan 2 and putting them into an ebook as well. The meal plan was first written in 2013 and still prices up, which is fabulous and that is finally complete. The book is done now too, prices seem to be stable enough to do it.
I've finally completed the e-book from the Stretch A Chicken To Last A Week series. Took me absolutely ages to finish it off!
Do come and say hello on the Fantastically Frugal Food Facebook group, or the Sensational Slimming Sustenance group. I'd love to see you. Lots of useful tips, recipes and ideas. The over 17,000 membership are brilliant, brimming with talent.
And don't forget Thrifty Lesley, where there are 800+ recipes of fantastically frugal food and many weekly meal plans. And Cheap Family Recipes where you can find all kinds of delicious things that don't cost much, with two family monthly meal plans.
I've also got a few YouTube videos up, not many yet, but I'm planning to do more. I've done a couple more, need to edit them now. So much to do, so little time!
With all best wishes, until next time
