Lebanese Recipes
Recently, I went to a cookery school a Ashdown Manna. They do lots of lovely classes. I went for the day with my granddaughter and we made some wonderful Lebanese dishes.
We cooked all morning and ate what we made, as a group, for lunch.
The filo wrapped ones are Peynirli Sigara Boregi and contain feta and herbs., brushed with butter and totally gorgeous. I'm sure this one in particular can be adapted to this site. Anyone make anything like this already?
The round balls are Lamb Kibbeh. Lamb and bulgar wheat wrapped around lamb based stuffing and deep fried.
We made the pitta and topped with various things, this one is sumac.
There was a red pepper dip which would work cost wise I think.
Tabbouleh is a pretty common recipe, but not one we've explored.
The Dukkah rolled boiled eggs might cost up, I've yet to cost the nuts etc
We made a Walnut and Cinnamon Cake too, which we had for pudding with a dollop of thick Greek yogurt. No picture of that one.
We took home a chicken tagline as well, made with these ingredients, which my husband loved!
My grand daughter wants to go and do a Sicilian day next!
Updating u3a website
I have been utilising my work place skills recently. The u3a are upgrading their websites for all the local groups and the old ones are being switched off in December. I had to work my way through a 174 page workbook! Took a while!
Looking forward to having the new site. its built using Wordpress which I use for Thrifty Lesley, so I'm pretty familiar with it.
British Sandwich Week
On May 16th to 22nd, it is British Sandwich Week. I didn't even know we had one until recently, but it is in its 29th year!
The first ‘packaged’ sandwich is believed to have been launched by Marks & Spencer in 1985 thanks to the creation of an ‘easy seal’ pack by Hans Blokmann, the then technical director of packaging supplier Danisco Otto Nielsen.
Chicken remains the most popular filling in commercially made sandwiches accounting for around 31% of all sandwiches.
I have written a post about the week, but have hidden it at the beginning of the blog. So you are the first to see it! I'll be publishing the post on May 15th or 16th.
Do you have a favourite sandwich?
Recipes This Time
Meal Plan 8
Based around chicken, peanut butter and coconut, this is weekly meal plan number 8. I am working my way through them, repricing to current levels.
For this week, you need £23.38 at the checkout and there are no leftovers this time. This is £1.67 per person, per day. The plan was been priced at Asda at the end of April 2024.
Meal Plan 9
This weekly meal plan is based around tuna, ham and cheese. But there are leftovers. You will need £22.17 at the checkout, but the food eaten comes to £19.19, which is £1.37 per person, per day
This plan was also repriced this week.
Vegetable Muffins
Have you made savoury muffins? These muffins are very light and taste delicious. Would be lovely tucked into a lunchbox, or enjoyed alongside a bowl of lovely soup
You really need to have some of the cheese on the top to get the cheese flavour.
Chocolate Scones
These unusual chocolate scones are tender and delicous . One of the ways we enjoyed them was a la Black Forest, with cream and bottled black cherries - yum!
I published an ebook for meal plan 1 in August 2021 and am delighted that many people have thought it was worth getting. I repriced it again in June 2022 and it was still holding on, even in these scary times. Now we are in September and prices have shifted again and I've managed to get my head around WooCommerce so I can feature it on the blog and you can find it here.
I was busy recooking, photographing and updating the recipes for Meal Plan 2 and putting them into an ebook as well. The meal plan was first written in 2013 and still prices up, which is fabulous and that is finally complete. The book is done now too, prices seem to be stable enough to do it.
I've finally completed the e-book from the Stretch A Chicken To Last A Week series. Took me absolutely ages to finish it off!
Do come and say hello on the Fantastically Frugal Food Facebook group, or the Sensational Slimming Sustenance group. I'd love to see you. Lots of useful tips, recipes and ideas. The over 17,000 membership are brilliant, brimming with talent.
And don't forget Thrifty Lesley, where there are 800+ recipes of fantastically frugal food and many weekly meal plans. And Cheap Family Recipes where you can find all kinds of delicious things that don't cost much, with two family monthly meal plans.
I've also got a few YouTube videos up, not many yet, but I'm planning to do more. I've done a couple more, need to edit them now. So much to do, so little time!
With all best wishes, until next time
