Friends!
April started out with a two-week spring break for our kids, which made the time fly by even faster than usual! We took a lovely road trip down to Texas, where we spent time with my amazing aunt and her family, played at the beach, explored the Houston Space Center, and enjoyed so much warm weather and sunshine. We got back just in time to celebrate a quiet Easter at home, complete with a beautiful church service and building Legos - since two of my kids are allergic to eggs, our Easter egg hunts involve plastic eggs filled with Legos that come together to make a complete set :) I'd love to hear about your special / unique Easter traditions!
Now onto my exciting news! You all are the first to hear that after a number of delays, I signed a contract for Book Three in my Tales of the Mystics series with Monster Ivy Publishing! My editor loved the story and said it's her favorite book of mine yet :) Talk about encouraging! I can't wait to move forward with getting this Beauty and the Beast reimagining ready for publication, stay tuned for updates!
In the meantime, I've had a few great writing sessions for Of Pine and Pretense after returning from our trip. Some character details and plot puzzle pieces are coming together, and I'm hoping I can build on this momentum to finish my first draft in the next few months! There should also be a cover reveal for my other 2026 release coming your way soon, I'll keep you posted!
Did you know April 19-25th was Disability Book Week? I was so honored when one of the coordinators reached out to let me know they listed A Noble Purpose as one of their recommended books! Stories are such a fun, worthwhile way to experience a glimpse of life from someone else's perspective, so books that handle disabilities with authenticity can be a powerful means of promoting awareness, compassion, and understanding. The week is technically over, but you can still check out their website for other great disability-inclusive recommendations!
Wishing all of you a beautiful spring! We have both grade school and middle school "graduations" coming up soon, so lots of changes on the way in our household! Any big transitions coming for you? Can I pray for you in some other way? I look forward to checking in with you again in May!
Book Spotlights
Is Found Family one of your favorite tropes? Me too! I love seeing someone develop a close community (often with a few quirky characters in the mix!) as they grow in wisdom and confidence and find their place in the world. So I love that my author friend Kyrie Wang put together a whole list of clean fantasy books featuring Found Family - enjoy!
I've heard such great things about A.R. Conwell, and her Obsidian Academy Duet sounds so intriguing! Tides of Secrets, the second book / conclusion, just came out last month!
Have you read any of the To Win a Dark Heart series yet? I always love a good fairy tale mashup, especially with fun twists! So Falling for the Sorcerer by Jes Drew, a mix of Rapunzel and Swan Lake, is very high on my to-read list!
