Happy May, friends!
I'm sneaking in this newsletter just in time :) A big shoutout to everyone who signed up through the Ye Olde Dragon Books' anthology giveaway! I hope you'll enjoy my monthly updates filled with a mix of personal and bookish news plus lots of book recommendations!
I'll admit, my news is mostly personal this time around. As a mom of four kiddos (ages 3-13), May is a busy month! Every day seems to bring a new school activity, field trip, color to wear, or special treat to bring, plus concerts and field trips... So much fun but also so much to keep track of! I'm sure it will take us a few weeks to adjust to a new schedule for the summer, but I'm definitely looking forward to a more relaxed pace (and hopefully some writing time!).
We've also had lots to celebrate recently! Three of my kiddos have birthdays this time of year, plus we had the opportunity to visit my parents and sister's family over Memorial Day weekend for the Baptism of my precious little nephew. In the midst of life barreling ahead far too quickly, I'm trying to get better about really cherishing that time with extended family. Plus there's always a lot of laughter and amazing food when we all get together! My husband and I will also be celebrating our 15-year wedding anniversary - where did that time go?? I have so much fun dreaming up fictional romances, but they'll never compare to the depth and beauty of my real-life love story. Enjoy a throwback to our big day :)
I've done a bit of writing / editing here and there as time allows, still with the goal of finishing Book 3 in my Tales of the Mystics series by the end of the year! And I'm afraid the Big News I hinted at in my last newsletter is still under wraps for now, but you'll be the first to know once the announcement is ready to be shared!
This summer will also bring a few exciting speaking opportunities! I'll admit I'm a bit of an awkward public speaker, but the more I practice the more comfortable I'll get. Right?? And I do love chatting about writing! I have an interview coming up for the Online Author Summit and a presentation about Romantasy (my all-time favorite genre!) for an online writers' group. Once the links for each are available, I'll be sure to pass them on!
My last news for the month is that The Dancer and the Dragon Speaker was chosen for a Kindle Daily Deal! If you haven't had a chance to read this romantic, adventurous mashup of The Twelve Dancing Princesses and The Language of the Birds yet, June 1st will be the perfect chance to snatch it up!
Have a wonderful start to your summer, friends! I'd love to hear if you have any fun plans or amazing book recommendations! See you next month :)
Book Spotlights
Have you heard of Mer-May? It's basically a chance for fairy tale and fantasy fans to highlight their favorite books involving mermaids during the month of May! So if you'd like to join the party (even though May is almost over!), The Realm Beneath is a whole collection of seven stories of mermaids and other sea creatures all in one book! I haven't had a chance to read these yet, but some authors I adore have stories in this book so I'm excited to check them out!
Speaking of mermaid books, here's another recommendation! I read my first book by Callie Thomas earlier this year, and it will definitely NOT be my last! This author has clean swoon down to a science :) A Sea of Golden Chains features a human girl who's saved by a merman, creating an unexpected bond between them. I just adore fairy tale retellings with a twist!
Fans of Christian fantasy romance, I have a treat for you! Claire Trella Hill just released the second book in her Karneesia Chronicles, The Flight of the Spellbound, earlier this month! If you love shape shifters, wizards, fae, and enemies to more romance, I'm pretty sure this will be your kind of book :) Happy reading!
