Happy Tuesday!

Hubby and I got away this weekend without the kids to see Aqua in concert (that's the band that sings Barbie Girl for anyone who isn't a millennial), and it was amazing. Slightly bittersweet since my best friend wasn't there with us, and she was the one I've been dancing to their songs with since we were kids. Still, though, it was a great night and a much-needed break.

I recently got asked by readers on TikTok why the FMC on Snowdrop's cover isn't curvier if she's a plus-size woman. I filmed a three-minute video talking about it that you can watch here, but roughly the answer comes down to this...

Indie authors are on a budget, and a lot of us don't have the money to purchase exclusive photos (that usually start at $500 per image, never mind if you want others for promo), so we rely on stock images.

Stock sites are very unkind to us plus-sized ladies, and you'll find the majority of the photos are super unflattering or stereotypical. So, most authors will use just a man on the cover or a single plus-size woman if they can find one that is flattering. But buff men and fat women just don't exist on stock sites, as if they don't exist in the real world.

I'd love to have the time to start taking my own photos, but that's a lot of time and money to put into something that would definitely take away from my writing. Do I hate it? Sure, but I'm just hoping most readers are a bit forgiving of the fact that we're working with limited options over here.
