Insta-Release! Meet Lucifer, he's about to stalk the hell out of Eve

What a week. Is Mercury in Retrograde or something because it has been c.r.a.z.y. over here. It's felt like one thing after another and it's only Tuesday, how is that possible?
So much for my plan to have this pre-written, hence why you're getting a cheeky dinner-time email from me. Sorry, I tried!
First and foremost: (for those of you who are only hear for the books and not the babble!) MY NEW RELEASE!
I have a bad reputation. Not because I'm a bad girl, quite the opposite.
But during rush week, I may have ... gotten a little carried away. I don't remember what happened, but I woke up without my clothes on, and photos of me in compromising positions began circulating the school.
I thought maybe dating Duke would make everyone ease up on the whispers. But Duke's only dating me for one reason ... my reputation.
Then, the next thing I know, Duke is ... different. He's looking out for me, taking care of my photo situation, and ensuring I never get hurt again.
I can't put my finger on it, but something has changed. Duke just doesn't seem like ... Duke. Do you know what I mean?

The Vatican is breathing down on necks, threatening to send exorcists to Chicago and exterminate the family.
We can't have that happening, so it's up to me to figure out where the leak came from and seal it. When I learn the priest I'm trying to get information from has a secret daughter, I know she's the key to our troubles.
But one look at Eve, and I know that she's mine. And she needs me.
I like to clean up messes, so looking after her and taking good care of her comes naturally. But telling her who—and what—I am, is a risk I'm not willing to take ... yet.
So, for now, I watch her from the shadows. When I need to get close to her, I assume the identity of her stupid frat boyfriend. He did not deserve my precious angel's attention in the first place.
No, Eve is made for one man. Her devil in disguise—her Lucifer.
THIS IS A 18K WORD DARK, MAFIA ROMANCE WITH MANY TRIGGER WARNINGS. PLEASE USE THE LOOK INSIDE BEFORE READING TO ENSURE THAT THERE IS NOTHING WITHIN THAT YOU CAN'T HANDLE.Now, it occurred to me last week after I sent my email and a few of you emailed me back that perhaps I wasn't clear.
I am not leaving Kindle Unlimited forever or removing ALL of my books. Only the Huntsville Misfits series will be ending their terms this month and moving wide.
Honestly, even my mom was confused, so don't beat yourself up -- Hi, Mom!
But after speaking to her about all the emails, I realized that maybe KU is one of those author things readers think they understand but don't, Amazon, after all, makes it look like you're doing us a good deed by reading our books for your subscription. So, I thought I'd explain exactly how much money I make per book.
When I'm in KU my payment comes from a pool that Amazon determines based on how many subscribers they have around the world. In May (tey haven't released June's numbers yet) the KU 'pot' as we like to call it in the author world, was $43.3 million which sounds like a lot and is very exciting.
However, Amazon takes their cut, so the pot goes down. Then this number is split by every single KU author whose book was read in the month of May. Now, I don't have a number on how many authors there are but I'm guessing it's a lot.
Next, per Amazon's own rules, how much you make is determined by various factors such as: exchange rates, customer reading behavior, and local subscription pricing. Author earnings are then determined by their share of total pages read, up to a total of 3,000 pages per customer per title.
For example, here's how they'd calculate royalty payout if $10 million in funds were available in a given month with 100 million total pages read:
- Author with a 100 page eBook that was borrowed and read completely 100 times would earn $1,000 ($10 million multiplied by 10,000 pages for this author divided by 100,000,000 total pages).
But also note: A customer can read your eBook as many times as they like, but we will only pay you for the number of pages read the first time the customer reads them.
Yup. So, you can 'love' my book and read it a bunch of times, but after you've read it once, I stop getting paid for it. This is why you'll hear authors asking you to purchase books you love instead of reading them on KU because we only get paid once, and the royalties from that are significantly less than if you were to purchase it. Here, let me break it down once more for you.
Devil In Disguise - My newest book has (according to Amazon) 105 KENP (which is Amazon talk for KU page reads [because yes, Amazon does not count pages as per page but per their pages which could mean the size could be just about anything for all I know]).
So, D.I.D = 105 pages
May = 43.3 Million / # of authors/pages read
Therefore the US Rate = $0.0045579377/KENP Page
Yup. I make 0.004 CENTS per page read. Read that again.
Okay so D.I.D = 105 pages x 0.0045579377 = 0.48
So, once you've read this book I make 0.48 for you reading it, and that's it. The only time I make less than that is when you buy it for 0.99c because I only make 35% of 99c. The most I can make on this book is if you buy it at 2.99 and then I'll get $2.09 because I make 70% off anything priced higher than 2.99.
I hope this doesn't sound preachy, I don't want it to be. I'm just always amazed at how people think we're making the big bucks over here when we're not. I would have to have 72,000 people read my book once through on KU to make a living wage with my books.
So, going wide isn't meant to be a stab at readers who can only sustain their reading habits with KU, I get it. I'm a KU reader too. It's only meant to give me options to make a true living wage because putting all my eggs in the Jeff Bezos basket just isn't sustainable.
That being said though, go and read Devil in Disguise on KU and if you love it and want to read it again please consider purchasing the book to support my writing.
Much love,
Kylie xoxo
