When a writer needs help

Hi! My name is KC Freeman and I am...

a WRITER!

If you're subscribed to this newsletter you have figured that out by now despite nothing new published over the last year. (Pinky promise that will be remedied soon)

What you also probably well aware of is that I am a book editor as well.

Some believe because I am a writer AND an editor that editing for my own books is easy-peasy and I can do it all myself and save myself tons of money in the process. (Now I'm beginning to sound like a Geico commercial)

Even editors who are authors NEED other editors to do the editing job for their manuscripts. It just makes sense. The human brain reads what it "knows" should be on the page. As an author, I "know" what should be in my own manuscript so it's more likely my eyes will skim right over a spelling error, bad grammar, wrong punctuation, and more. It's a fact. It's not a pretty fact, but it is what it is.

It's the sad truth. I was horrified after reading my book AFTER publication to find more than a few oopsies when I did not have a professional editor review and edit my book. I even had a reader point out a flagrant typo on the back cover blurb on the paperback of another book. I wanted to crawl under my desk and sob.

So what do I do when I need an editor? I've used a couple editing services over the years. Pricey? Yep. Worth it? Double Yep!

Since being certified by the Professional Book Editors Association, I now have a new resource for editing help. These editors go through rigorous training in developmental editing, copy and line editing, proofreading, manuscript evaluations, and book coaching so I know I'm receiving a high-quality product. Prices vary so there's an editor for every budget.

If you're an author searching for a professional book editor who can guarantee you a quality product, check out the Professional Book Editors Association website at https://professionalbookeditorsassociation.org/ where you can find a directory of certified book editors for all your editing needs. You may even see a familiar face in the directory.
