The difference a day makes

Winter is cold and dreary unless you live in the tropics. Even in the south of the USA, all that's lush and green turns to gray. The sky seems less blue and takes on a perpetual cloudy haze. The cold weather and cold landscape can adversely impact even the most stalwart "continual ray of sunshine" personality. Not that I've ever been a "ray of sunshine" but generally I think I'm a happy person.
So why did my writing mojo vanish? Did it go on sabbatical to another, warmer, sunnier part of the globe? It must have because my creativity died this winter. It didn't help that my "office" had been regulated to a dark corner of the attic with no source of natural lighting except a skylight that was so dirty no illumination could seep through. Without some Vitamin D enriched sunshine and a view of something other than the beige wall oddly angled so I couldn't hang up a picture over my monitors, I did a lot of staring at my screen with a blank expression and blank brain.
UNTIL...
my husband and youngest son (once wrestling season was finally OVER) gutted what once was the kids' playroom, painted it a lovely blue-green, and set up my new standing desk with ergonomically supportive desk chair by the wall-to-wall windows looking out over my backyard. Two whole walls in the vast space are nothing but windows! "Let there be light, and there was light!"
And now that spring has sprung, I now stare outside watching the nesting hawks perched in a tall tree, bunnies and squirrels scurrying around the backyard in search of fresh wild strawberries popping up in the garden, and the brown grass morphing into a lush green!
And just like that... the writing mojo slammed back into me! Hallelujah!
Do you find yourself in the same type of circumstance every winter? Do you need sunshine to kickstart your creativity? I couldn't imagine being stuck up in that cramped, dark attic anymore. So a huge round of THANKS to my amazing hubby and my kiddo! They have saved my sanity and my stories! I'll have some new and different material coming out as I make a little shift into new territory. I don't want to spoil it yet, so be on the lookout for something new and exciting in the near future!
And... HAPPY SPRING!
