The other week, I made a compilation of several of my synthesis units and was asked to do the same for my rhetorical analysis writing workshops.
Ask ... and I shall deliver 😀!!
To contextualize, in the years before I got somewhat wise, the proverbial wheels would fall off for a lot of students once I delved into rhetorical analysis.
But there is an easier-softer-way.
There are ways to dip the toes into the water before we expect students to be proficient with their reads and writes.
Let's face it - rhetorical analysis ain't all that easy!
So, here is a list of my top ten writing workshop videos that are posted in my YouTube channel (Please subscribe if you haven't already)
Einstein's Letter to his Daughter Lieserl
Dave Barry "Hurricane Season Can Make a Storm Shudder"
Judy Blume "Is Harry Potter Evil?"
8th Grade Star Wars Fan Love Letter to Jessica
Will Smith's Oscar Speech (Post Slap)
Zelensky's Appeal to the Russian People
Steinbeck's Letter to Marilyn Monroe
Marge Simpson's Letter to First Lady Barbara Bush
Noah M. Sweat's "The Whiskey Speech"
Richard Burton Letter to Elizabeth Taylor
What you're seeing here is some of the fantastic work I am doing with my good friends over at The National Writing Project.
These workshops, along with my templates and alternative grading methods, are the pith and substance of my Teach It "Write" 5-Week Mastermind.
Our next session begins this Sunday at 7 EST. We will meet live in Zoom for one hour per class and go for five consecutive weeks.
Cool thing is ... NWP awards a completion badge of ten PD hours for this course.
If you'd like more information - or if you'd like to enroll ...
I'm hoping that the rhetorical analysis units will help propel your students forward.
Happy teaching and happy writing!
