Let's face it - the traditional grading paradigm is for the birds!
None of us have a clause in our contracts that stipulate compulsory, unpaid overtime - so why is it that heaping stacks of essays have claimed so many an evening and weekend?
And here's the real kicker - no matter how many comments we manage to squeeze into the margin of a student draft, to what extent are we actually helping to facilitate the growth and maturation of our writers?
The research is clear in pointing out that the traditional grading paradigm is largely ineffective because the teacher is doing 99% of the heavy lifting.
Apart from reading our comments, which many of our students don't even bother to do, what are we tasking our students to do in the process of their learning?
With alternative grading methods, the onus shifts to the student - a shift that allows for real learning to occur.
Not only do alternative grading practices liberate you from having to endlessly and ceaselessly grade essays, but they actually augment your student's writing abilities exponentially.
If you would like to reclaim your evenings and weekends while witnessing your students truly flourish as writers, check out my new course offering.
