Teaching can be a very isolating profession, but it need not be.
And as we all know too well, teaching can tax our souls.
In knowing this, I started a new FB group for teachers who are pinned down by state exams.
Sometimes pesky ... often inane ... and frequently a massive hurdle for struggling and emerging writers ...
I decided that such a group would get us out of our hermetically sealed classrooms to share best practices as far as writing strategies go.
Here's the kicker that I've come to realize ...
The Regents Exam we offer here in New York State is pretty much the same bag as what's happening in the likes of Florida, California, Massachusetts, Illinois, Texas, etc.
So, why reinvent the wheel?
For today's writing workshop video, I "Bob Ross" how to write our argument-based synthesis prompt.
Per usual, I wrote a ton of exemplars and models, all while pulling the strings of my heuristic (also referred to as a template), in the hopes of demystifying the process for you and your students.
But here's an even bigger kicker ... based on my research, a slew of other states have the exact same task requirement.
Over the coming weeks, I plan on making writing workshop videos for a number of state exams to illustrate my point that none of us are stranded on deserted islands.
Together ... we definitely can lighten the collective load.
If you want me to tackle something in a bad way from one of your exams, just holler my way.
Please join our new community ... and please subscribe to the new YouTube channel.
I got a lot cooking this summer ... plenty of exciting things to come.
Happy teaching and happy writing!
