To Prompose ... Or Not To Prompose? (Synthesis Essay)

image

Just at about the time I will be introducing synthesis to my on-level juniors and AP Language students, low and behold, we have ourselves the Homecoming Dance.

Last year, a slew of students grappled with the following question: to prompose ... or not to prompose?

So, I made a synthesis unit that centers around this essential question and a fascinating rhetorical quandary that finds Riley feeling ambivalent as to whether or not they should prompose to their longtime crush, Sam.

In the writing workshop's video description on YouTube, you will find links to the source packet and exemplar slides.

All of the models are either written by me or my NWP peers, so they are top-notch. At bare minimum, the exemplars will serve as a nice entry point into equipping your students with a set of killer templates.

It's summer ... and I'm feeling creative. I truly hope that you and your students love this one.

I am teaching this summer at Princeton's Academic Writing Camp and this is going to be our first task. Kids are definitely excited about this one, so I'm equally excited to see the end results.

Should be some amazing fodder for discussion and composition.
