Lisa Simpson (A Voice, Rhythm, Flow Exercise)

image

Imagine this ... Lisa Simpson sitting to take an AP English exam.

I'd bet my salary that she'd be a slam dunk guarantee to earn the sophistication point.

In today's writing workshop video, I have Lisa Simpson retelling the children's classic: "Where the Wild Things Are."

In this unit, students have an opportunity to flex and hone their voices while re-writing any children's story from the perspective of one of our AP Voice Masters Dream Team.

As an example, one of my really bright students reworked "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" from the perspective of Morgan Freeman.

Another student reworked "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie" with the voice of adult narrator Ralph from A Christmas Story.

Tons of fun ... and a super edifying lesson on how to develop a students' writing chops.

If you'd like to host this lesson with your students, feel free to download the content directly from my YouTube channel (Yup ... it's free!!)

Happy teaching and happy writing!
