The bottom line is this ... my Button Trick is an incredible way to ensure that students keep their lines of reasoning intact as they proceed through their essays ... no matter the expository mode.

Well ... with my template of the Syllogistic Method ... kids in many ways play this game as they engage the text to write cogently from start to finish.
For my AP Language friends, check out how my students incorporate my Button Trick to construct FRQ 1 from last year's exam (STEM).
Note the voice/rhythm/flow as these kids definitely earn the elusive sophistication point.

Further, these tricks contain the intangible nuance that is so hard to teach and learn.
