Even though those of us in this part of the country are grinding for yet another month, i have my eyes set on creating some killer units to kick off next year.
The bane of my existence (and perhaps yours) is threefold: the dang blasted cell phones have got to go ... engagement is way too low ... and I'm beyond tired of receiving cheated CHATGPT constructed work.
Instead of soap boxing and talking needlessly into the ether on the first few opening days of school, I'm going to get a few birds with one stone.
Why not tie instruction to the moral lesson?
So, for today's writing workshop video, I have a synthesis essay that centers upon whether or not to ban cell phones in school.
Borrowing signage from Steven Blake Crowder ... my prompt provocatively states ... "Change My MIND: Holy Moly ... Ban Cell Phones In Schools Already!"
I'm looking forward to learning how to tackle synthesis while introducing my templates, but I'm also eager to set classroom expectations with regards to this perennial nuisance.

And up my sleeve for next week ... I have a synthesis unit that has students looking at their current levels of motivation to determine if these are aligned with their future goals.
A topic we often avoid ... and most students lack foresight with.
