At the close of this school year, the baton will be passed to me as four of my ELA colleagues are embarking upon their retirement journeys.
The irony is that I was the youngest teacher in the department this year with 23 years of experience - next year, I'm the old codger, plus the department head.
Today's video is super special because myself and the new hires sat down and actually wrote the entire AP Literature exam that our students sat for last week.
Personally, I think it's a tremendous best practice when teachers write with and for their students (what I call "Bob Ross-ing" instruction) ... but it's also a really good practice to work through these assessments in an intimate way (definitely informs one's teaching).
So, in today's video you'll find three teachers writing FRQ 1 (the McElroy poem).
Here's the kicker - we do so while wielding the frames I instruct my students to use (the inverted thesis plus the syllogistic method).
If you're looking for some solid examples and new ways to approach these essays, then definitely check this lesson out.
We wrote the entire exam for Set I, so the other videos will be forthcoming.
This YouTube channel is brand new, so it looks like I can't attach hyperlinks to the slides until I hit 500 subscribers. With that said, if you'd like a copy (free), just drop me a line and I'll happily send things your way.
I'm excited to lead this group of young teachers next year. I think you'll find their work to be very beneficial and inspiring.
