Employing the Seinfeld Method

image

I'm a composition instructor that loves me a good writing heuristic, so it goes without question that I chalk Seinfeld up as being one of the best written shows of all time.

But here's the kicker - comedians use heuristics all the time (it's known as the comedic narrative thread ... basically, three jokes are simultaneously woven around a universal theme).

Odd as it may sound, I often equip my college bound students with this heuristic (frame) to house their college personal statement.

Comedy or no comedy ... it can yield some superb writing.

In today's video, we'll juxtapose the heuristic of the comedic narrative thread to a sample one of my students wrote that landed him entrance into Princeton.
