"Ughh ... My Students Can't Write To Save Themselves"

Over the course of my career, I have heard countless ELA teachers decry – “Ughh … my students can’t write to save themselves.”

Here’s what I’ve come to know …

All kids can write … if we empower them to do so.

It’s just that most of our students don’t know how to sustain a clear line of reasoning (or, in other terms, think on paper).

And this is where my templates come into play.

For every single body paragraph a student ever writes, regardless of the expository mode, they can tackle it syllogistically.

The syllogistic method is rooted in the Aristotelian polemical tradition, but if tweaked ever so slightly – it works beautifully for composition … especially in terms of the old line of reasoning conundrum.

But we wouldn’t have a good and sufficient template if it did not help cultivate the nuance of voice, rhythm, and flow – even the basic mechanics of good writing.

If you’re looking for a way to build your students from the ground up, the Teach It “Write” Symposium is a good fit for you.

And if you’re tired of spinning your wheels in the muck and mire of not witnessing your students grow and mature as writers, you should join us this Sunday night.

The Teach It “Write” Symposium still has a couple of seats available.
