Now let's start with the news.

1) European New AI Law

The European Parliament has approved a groundbreaking law regulating Artificial Intelligence (AI). This legislation is the first of its kind, aiming to ensure the safe and ethical development of AI technologies.

The new law categorizes AI based on risk. High-risk applications, like car driving automation in law enforcement, will require strict oversight and security measures. Systems deemed "unacceptable risks," such as social scoring, are completely banned.

Lower-risk AI, like chatbots, will need to be transparent about their nature and allow users to opt-out of interactions. This law is expected to be in effect by the end of 2024.

2) India To Invest $1.25 Billion in AI

India invests $1.25 billion in AI to boost its AI industry. The funds will be used to develop infrastructure, AI models, support startups and create AI applications for public services. India's AI market is expected to reach $17 billion by 2027.

3) Grok getting free

Elon Musk's company xAI open-sourced the underlying code for its chatbot Grok. This allows researchers and developers to tinker with the model and potentially improve it, competing with similar AI from Google, Meta, and others. While this is a significant release, it doesn't include the training data or access to real-time updates. Grok previously required a paid subscription but may change direction with this open-source approach.
