Happy Thursday !
It's release day for The Thing About Mistletoe Kisses! I'm so excited to share Rett & Stella's story with you. Early readers have loved it and I think you will too.
Will she finally get her Christmas kiss?
Year after year, I’ve watched couples fall in love at the town gazebo. After all, it’s smack dab in the middle of town and in direct sight of my family’s Christmas tree stand. I’ve seen my fair share of kisses under the mistletoe, but I’ve never been on the receiving end of one.
When a series of unfortunate events prevents my dad from running the tree farm this season, he hires Rett Edwards to step in. Rett needs a job, and my dad needs help.
For someone who grew up in this town the same as me, you’d think he would appreciate the tourist attraction and smile once in a while. But he’s cold as ice, and I’m making it my mission to melt away his grumpiness.
The book is available on Kindle, paperback and free to read for Kindle Unlimited subscribers. Here's a peek at the prologue.
Prologue
Stella - High School
“There they go again,” I tell Mom as we watch yet another couple lock lips under the mistletoe. I stare longingly at the gazebo across the street from our family’s Christmas tree stand, wishing it was me. We’ve spied at least a dozen couples making out over there this week alone.
Making a gagging sound from behind me, my little sister complains, “Isn’t there somewhere else people can go to kiss in this town?”
I turn and glare at her, but Mom intervenes. “It’s because it’s Christmastime.” She grins with doe eyes as she watches the couple embrace.
“You can kiss other places than under a mistletoe,” Ivy rebuts.
“You can, but tradition says if you’re caught under hanging mistletoe, you have to kiss,” I explain.
“So if you stand under the mistletoe and don’t kiss, what happens?” Ivy asks.
“According to the old wives’ tale, the person rejecting the kiss will have bad luck.” Mom shrugs her shoulders. “But nothing actually happens. It’s a silly superstition.”
Sagging against a wooden pole, I admit, “I think it’s romantic. I hope someone kisses me under the mistletoe one day.”
“What about the boy you have a crush on?” Ivy pipes up.
Feigning ignorance, I deny her accusation. “I don’t have a crush on anyone.”
“That’s not what your journal says,” Ivy mutters.
My eyes cut to my sister and narrow. “You need to stop snooping in my room.”
“It was laying out on your nightstand.”
“Girls,” Mom chimes in. “Be nice to each other. Ivy, you know you shouldn’t invade your sister’s privacy.”
“It was open. All I did was take a peek.”
“I do not–”
The Davis family piling out of their car, ready to shop for their perfect Christmas tree, squelches my argument. Mom greets them with a warm hello.
Looking over my shoulder, I watch the couple embrace and kiss once more. I release a heartfelt sigh, hoping someday it’ll be me standing in the middle of the gazebo being kissed under the mistletoe.
