Are you being complacent in your career?

Hi , Happy Monday!

If you have been doing the same thing for a long time, it can be easy to fall into a sense of complacency. Complacency can lead to stagnation in your career development.

When you become content and comfortable with what you are currently doing, you stop challenging yourself and pushing the boundaries to your growth.

Here are just five short tips to help you live a less complacent life.

  1. Get out of your bubble - meet new people, network with other professionals, and put yourself out there. The more you explore what opportunities the world has, the wider your world becomes.
  2. Challenge yourself to do something uncomfortable every month. This can be as little as attending a new networking event or learning a new and hard skill.
  3. Have difficult conversations. We have the tendency to avoid hard conversations - we don't feel ready to hear the hard stuff. However, the hard things that are hard to hear are the ones that can help us learn and grow.
  4. Learn to ask for what you want. You want a promotion? Ask for it. You want to learn about a new industry? Talk to someone in the industry. You will never know until you've tried - so just ask. The worst that they can do is no - and the best outcome is that they say yes!
  5. Keep learning. No matter how old or young you are, there will always be opportunities to learn something new. Keep yourself updated with the latest technological updates and industry news. Take advantage of what is out there and continuously upskill and reskill yourself to stay relevant.

At the end of the day, remember that you hold the reins to your career development. Be mindful not to be too comfortable with where you are now, and to always think about what the future may hold for you.
