AN ASIDE THAT I HAVE TO DO, JUST THIS ONCE:

I haven’t ever spoken of politics in my newsletters, but I’m seeing so many people having angst and being in despair, in fear, actual fear, that an unfit convicted felon might be given an office with which he could destroy many of the good things about this country. And, of course, having that office would free him from his 34 felony convictions. My daughter brought me a ray of hope that I posted on Facebook. It got such good that I want to share it here. It’s on my Facebook thread on the 15^th.

*** TAKE HEART! My daughter talked me off the ledge for at least the 3rd time and what she says makes sense. She's a lawyer in the DC area and has her finger on the national pulse better than I do, IMO.

Here's her take: (1) People who lose the election don't win the next one. (2) He lost the last one and hasn't gained any voters. He's only losing them. HE WON'T WIN. I'm still not off the ledge completely, but only have one foot on it right now.

One more observation from me. He's not campaigning effectively, in the right places, and not treating his crowds very nice. Like, not knowing what city he's in. Stranding them in the desert to walk miles in the heat afterward. The more in-person speeches he gives, the worse he does. Also, notice he has to have his venues outside because no building will let him in, since he never pays them.

***I think I haven’t told you about this yet! Carol Goodman Kaufman was kind enough to interview me at her Murder We Write Shortcast Club. It’s a little over 20 minutes to listen. Don’t laugh at my part. I kept giving dictation directions. I’m not good at this!

***All three of the anthologies I worked with and have stories in are out and available! I put them in the header for this month’s newsletter. And now the podcast has been aired for my story in GAMES PEOPLE PLAY: FINAL MOVE. It’s an extension of actual local tensions over the pickle ball court near where I live, “In a Pickle.” No one has resorted to murder here, though.

I got a kick out of this one! Near the end, the narration and background music is paused (narration by Tina Wolff, piano by Jack Wolff) for Jack to try to figure out who the murderer is. I stumped him! The name I gave the woman character was a little too out-there. I called her Melaine, which is too close to Melanie, and Tina called her that for most of the podcast. I can’t blame her!

WHAT I’M DOING

***I’m doing the final edits for COMFY CORNER KILLING, the first novel in The Comfy Cat Mysteries, which will be 3 books, beginning in April 14, 2025. They feature Velma, a Rag Doll cat who has an unusual ability. This is another Rowan Prose Publishing project. Here’s my model for Velma. Her name is Daisy and she lives with my son’s family, which is convenient for me. Here’s a picture of her curling up on my purse. For some reason. She soon retreated to her box, as usual.

WHAT I SHOULD BE DOING

***Getting ready for holidays! Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas. I put my little felt skeleton on the door, and I’ve stashed a few Christmas gifts in my closet, but there’s lot to do! See? I hung the felt guy on the pumpkin, so after the 31^st, I take him down and I have a Thanksgiving door decoration. Aren’t I clever? Or was that just lazy, since the pumpkin was already there for September? No, I’m pretty sure that was clever.
