WHAT’S NEW

GOOD

***A little more about the contract I signed with Rowan Pross Publishing for a story in a horror anthology next year! I wrote the story a few years ago, it was accepted for publication, but the publication went out of business before it was aired. So, I guess it’s a new/old story. It’s not icky, just bizarre. What’s new, is that I have a cover, but I can’t show you yet. (That’s what we call a cliffhanger, right? You’re all hanging on the cliff now, right?)

BAD

***Just for balance, I got a very quick rejection on another short story submission. I believe it was about 9 minutes. But it was a very NICE rejection, and he had time to read it because it’s flash fiction, 198 words. 

VERY BAD, AND SAD

***Two wonderful writing community friends passed away this week, Meg Gustafson of Meg’s Cozy Mystery Corner, and Camille Minichino. Meg was a good friend to writers and worked hard to give us a place to gather, discuss, and promote. Camille was a kind person who befriended me as a lonely writer at one of my first conferences. Also, per Simon Wood: a retired physicist, former nun and ran numbers for the mob when she was a kid. I didn’t know about that last one! She was also a mystery writer and a builder of wonderful miniatures.

BAD

***Still fighting some persistent health things. Gout, continued infections, and some mysterious fluid buildup on my knees. I really think this is all residual, left over from the kidney stones in January and February. But it takes three different doctors to address everything. At least they are three very good doctors. By next month, I should be really good. I’m much better than I was last month right now.

Also, I MUST sing the praises of tart cherry juice for gout. It’s like a miracle. Took away the pain that was so bad I wanted to lay down and cry in the doctor’s parking lot. Took it away in about an hour. So, that part is GOOD. (To be honest, I’m also drinking some tonic/quinine water, so I don’t know which is doing the most good.)

Below is what I use for a remedy when I'm not on powerful prescription meds.

WHAT I SHOULD BE DOING

GOOD

***Continuing to write Comfy Cat. But I sent out a proposal for the series and I’m waiting to hear. I’ll get back to it soon.

BAD

***Okay, not really bad. Just nuts. After I sent in that proposal, I completely lost my mind and decided to write a 6000 word minimum short story in 6 days, because it was due in 6 days. I have no idea what made me think I could do this! I usually write about 500 word/day. But, you know what? I did it.

As soon as I submitted it, though, I thought of a better ending. AND…next day, bright and early, a rejection.

I promise, though, not to report all my rejections. That’s kind of depressing.

WHAT’S COMING UP NEXT

***Right now, I’m going to run out and bring in my mail before it starts raining again.

***In the spring of 2025, though, the new Suspense novel, as well as a horror anthology story, both from Rowan Prose Publishing
