I’ve never made a secret of my writing struggles. If you’re familiar with the King’s Daughters Writing Camp or my blog, you might recognize July as a big writing month for me, and this year is no different.
After my big binge in March, I fell into my usual slump. I’ve tried to work on my newsletter magnet for the advent calendar I signed up to be a part of, but the words refused to come. It was like trying to wring water from a bone-dry board. And I hated most every drop I collected.
On one hand, it’s embarrassing to constantly find myself in this position. It always makes me wonder if I’m a fake... if I’m a fluke... if my writing is over... Starting a new work is always a vulnerable time, as you try to figure out what you're doing, where you’re going, and if you can pull off the vision in your mind.
But on the other hand, it’s really cool to experience the moment when it all clicks. When the story starts to gush out. When you reread what you have and you genuinely love it. When you know where you’re going and how to do it.
As a friend of mine said, it’s kind of like God keeps putting the training wheels back on the bike to remind me that I need him. I can’t do this by myself. I’m not supposed to do it by myself. It’s him behind this all. It’s him who needs to be reflected in it. This isn’t ultimately for me or my readers. It’s for him.
