Happy Sunday, Cats and Kittens!
Siding into a sleepy Sunday? Looking for something to do besides doom scroll? Well, I am here for you, my friends! I am here for you. Close down the social media and step away from the news and get ready to spread some sunshine with a random act of kindness.
This time of the year is the announcement of the BroadwayWorld Regional Awards and guess what?
I have shows nominated in three different cities!
How bonkers is that?!
And they could all sure use your vote.
(And, yes! You can vote. Anyone can vote from anywhere in the world even if they haven't seen the show. I vouch that all of these productions and people are the bee's knees and you'd love all of them. And you can skip over any category you don't want to vote for.)
Note: BroadwayWorld asks for your email address to vote, only to make sure you're a real person. On the final page is a menu where you can opt out of all their mailing lists (unless you're interested in getting a newsletter about what's going on in American theatre, which actually is kind of fun and interesting. See also: not doom scrolling.)
First up is Working for Crumbs in the UK / West End Awards. We're up for TWO nominations for Best Director (Cecilie Fray) and Best New Production of a Play (The Space).
That sure felt good, didn't it? You ready for more? Well, Building Madness at Harlequin Production was nominated for THIRTEEN awards!! Head on over to the Seattle Region and click everywhere you see Building Madness or Harlequin!
All warmed up now? Feeling like your clicker finger is ready for the final sprint? Well, there is one final city to vote in and that is my adaptation of Agatha Christie's The Mysterious Affair at Styles at Theatre in the Round in Minneapolis. Click through and vote wherever you see The Mysterious Affair at Styles or Theatre in the Round.
You made it!! Congratulations!! There is one final itsy bitsy step. You'll receive an email asking you to verify your email address. Make sure to click that link, otherwise your vote won't count. (It's to make sure folks don't just make up a bajillion email addresses to vote for themselves.)
And that's it!!
Awards can sometimes seem silly, but theatre is really struggling and many artists have left the field because it is just too grueling. A win for anyone in these shows is a win for us all. And sometimes that one win is something that keeps the spirit alive when up against a world of rejections. Thank you for saying "yes" to these artists today.
If you'd like to learn more about any of these shows, hop on over to katedanley.com or the New Play Exchange and click around.
And thank you, yes YOU, for supporting live theatre!
