Spooky Reads for the Season

Hello, Gentle Readers!

I hope you are settling into fall, this most cozy time of year! I know it has been awhile since you heard from me. The days just fly!

I've been very busy writing a lot of plays (more beans to spill soon). The picture below is for an evening of shorts called Victorian Christmas Cards happening in December. A group of us met at a pub in downtown Seattle one afternoon and were told to blindly draw a Victorian Christmas card from a pile. We were then tasked with writing a ten minute play about it. You'll see in December what this inspired!

But I know that's not why you're here. I promise some new books are on the way, too! 2024 is gonna be all the words for you!

But first off, I've been getting some questions about this, so for those of you as excited as me about The Woodcutter going to the moon, I'm sorry to say that the rocket exploded during testing. But fear not! It is being rebuilt bigger and better than ever and we're looking to that lunar time capsule being dropped on the moon next year. (There's a whole paragraph I never imagined myself writing...)

But if you're snuggled up on your couch and desperate for something to read, I thought I would pass along some of the Halloween-appropriate stories I've written.

We've got Miss Spell's Hotel, which is all sorts of witchy fun with the MacKay family. Get to know Maggie's dad when he was young and Killian when he was still a dragonslayer.

If you're looking for Maggie, grab a copy of her first holiday special, The Ghost and Ms. MacKay. (Get it? It's a play on The Ghost and Mrs. Muir? I amuse myself.)

And if you want to venture into the less magically world of my writing, I have a mystery under my penname called Haunting at High Tide. It is a part of the Paige Comber Mystery Series, but you won't get too lost if you start in the middle.

And then if you'd like a FREE book, you, as one of my valued newsletter subscribers, yes YOU!, are entitled to a free copy of Queen Joanna, which is my retelling of the Bloody Mary ghost story. Just click on that link and you'll be able to download the file.

For those of you out in the Los Angeles area, Los Osos High School in Rancho Cucamonga is going to be doing Building Madness the first week of November. It is so fun seeing high school students living their dream! Check it out if you're in the area! (And if you are a theatre creator, all of my plays are available to license if you want to bring one to your theatre. Getting a review copy is as simple as dropping me an email! They can also be found on the New Play Exchange.) And did I mention that the Working for Crumbs production in London has been nominated for two Offie (Off West End) awards? Pretty darn fancy if I do say so myself.

(This is my fancy tea at the Savoy to celebrate the opening of the show that my friend, Colleen, treated me to because everything was so fancy!)

If you're headed to NYC this winter, be sure to grab a ticket for The Museum of Broadway. My family and I are proud supporters and they have a really great new exhibit all about Chicago. And they are always getting in something new, including recent costumes worn by Lea Michele, Ben Platt, and props from the original Les Mis.

And that's it for this edition of "The Newsletter Kate Always Forgets to Send." If you ever get bored and are wondering what the heck I'm up to, I try to keep my website up-to-date, so pop on over to www.katedanley.com.

Until next time!

May your pumpkin spice lattes overfloweth,

Kate
