Cartoons + Horses = Rest

Hello ,

Last weekend I flew to Cincinnati to meet a friend and have some time away. It's the first time I've done that since 2014 when I went to Paris for 48 hours with two friends. Honestly, my life is very busy with something almost everyday and my husband's job doesn't allow for much flexibility on his part to take care of the kids.

So when this opportunity arose, I took it. My friend and I stayed in Kentucky, which I have to say is absolutely GORGEOUS! The people we encountered were fabulous as well from the pizzeria to the little country breakfast station to the vinery. Everyday we met people willing to spend some time with us to tell us about the area and themselves. It was a writer's dream.

Did you know the Thoroughbreds out there sell for millions of dollars? I grew up with quarter horses so of course I had NO idea.

These guys here were so curious. I was just taking in the calm. :)

Though leaving for four days has put me behind on my writing schedule and marketing schedule (I'm not organized enough to NOT get behind. It's bad, I know. I'm trying to work on being better organized and ahead of the game. But I'm not there yet), I'm glad I took a few days off. Last week I felt depleted of all creative energy and couldn't come up with a good idea for a short story.

Back at home, I'm catching up, almost done with putting together Coffee Stains (still waiting on the final book cover...) and I came up with a great idea for a short story that took only two days to write! Hopefully, it will only take two days to edit as well.....

What's on the Podcast

Last week on Pencils&Lipstick Ross McMeekin told me what a wild writing journey he's been on and what it took to get his novel The Hummingbirds out. This week I have Soulla Christodoulou reminding us that anyone can start writing at any stage in life. She pulls a lot from her heritage as a British woman of Cypriot background for two of her stories and has found some really great success in the matter of only six yers!

Remember to Laugh!

I went into a small bookstore in Frankfort, Kentucky and found myself reading all of the literary cartoons they had taped up on the window just to laugh. Which then made me realize that I hadn't been laughing very often with life so busy. I made a mental note to find some great cartoons and of course the internet obliged. I hope cartoonists know how essential they are!

My FREE Writing Sprint Mini Course is still rolling. In the course you'll be sent five videos, one each day for five days, with a prompt that you can use for fiction or non-fiction. Then on Friday the 10th I will invite everyone who signs up for a free live writing sprint!

It should be lots of fun. Sprints are a great way to start writing again or get your toes wet. The prompts help you overcome writer's block and the limited time helps psychologically with waiting to do it until you have a 'day to write'. In just 30 minutes you'll have some writing done!
