From about a week ago on the @kumuph app where we at @katao_school had a series of Batok talks ending with live tattooong. One of the common questions is regarding all the people assisting. They're stretching the skin so to enable the ink to be applied smoothly. They aren't pinning me down due to pain. There were some times where I could've fallen asleep. One day, I'll talk story about the patterns that was applied by @lanewilcken. It's not that speaking about it dilutes the meaning, it's just not done yet. Have you watched Trese on Netflix yet? I'm rewatching the series again in both English and Tagalog but I wanted to write my initial thoughts on the ᜐᜓᜎ Sulat usage. It's quite prominent and is an important factor. It's quite obvious that the intent was to use the script as Latin was used in anting-antings. The second image is of a handwritten/drawn undershirt that is thought to protect the wearer. I a quoted it a few years ago at an antique shop in Manila in one of my research quests. Tomorrow 6/17 -------- Pilipinx Virtual Histories is a collaboration between Kearny Street Workshop and Balay Kreative that explores the cultural impact of the Filipinx and Asian American arts activism community in San Francisco. Lead artist, Kristian Kabuay, and illustrator, ClarizeYale Revadavia brought to life the SF based stories told to us by Jessica Hagedorn, Joel Tan, Mary Claire Amable, and Rupert Estanislao. This two-part event celebrates the launch of PVH (part of APICC’s #usaaf2021), and an exhibition, kalayaan (till every grass blade is afire from every other) which opens at ARC Gallery (1246 Folsom Street) on June 19.
