Why 'fake it till you make it' is killing you

The truth about 'fake it till you make it'...

When it comes to confidence, there are many sayings and phrases that aren't just untrue, they actually stall our progress.

'Believe and you can achieve.'

'When you believe you can, you are half way there.'

'Just do it.'

The most notorious?

FAKE IT TILL YOU MAKE IT.

Put simply: this kind of thinking doesn’t work.

Let me explain.

The strategy of ‘fake it till you make it’ has been used for decades.

In order to convince people that we belong in a room, deserve a seat at the table or are qualified for a particular role.

We hope that no one will ‘find out’ that we actually…

Don’t belong in that room.

Deserve a seat at that table.

Aren’t remotely qualified.

We cruise our way through life and business tricking people into thinking that we are something more than we actually are.

We add the titles.

Get the certifications.

Build credibility.

All in hopes that we’ll feel ‘qualified’.

In other words, we want to feel ‘enough’.

The reality is that regardless of how good you are, your skills or your background: You have something to offer.

We sometimes feel like we need to be something which kills our potential to share what we ALREADY are.

The reality is that...

Everyone has something to bring to the table.

Everyone has a unique superpower.

Everyone is 1 of 1.

YOU don’t need to ‘fake it till you make it’.

You need to work on it until you become it.’

I understand it is less catchy but the truth remains:

You don’t trick people into believing you deserve a seat at the table, you convince yourself of it.

Because if you believe it, other people will follow suit.

You need to be the person that believes in who you are so much that people are convinced that you are the real deal.

THAT is the path of real confidence.

Sharing your true self with the world.

Get into the room.

Sit at the table.

Share your skills.

When you do, people will feel the difference.
