It took me 7 days to get fired from my first job.
I was 15.
As a barista at a coffee shop.
Why?
Because the girl I liked at the time worked there.
I thought:
"If we spend more time together, we may fall in love, right?"
Wrong.
I spent the majority of my time trying to impress her.
And barely any time trying to make an impressive cup of coffee.
I hardly listened.
I didn’t take notes.
I retained very little.
Not because I was distracted,
(Which I was)
But because I was trying to win someone’s approval.
Did it work?
Sort of.
I finally built up the courage to ask her out.
And she said…
YES!
I was over the room.
Our first date was AMAZING.
And our second date…
I got friend zoned.
All this work for nothing!
2 days later,
I got fired.
And honestly,
I was relieved.
Because I knew I wasn’t doing this for me.
I was doing it for the approval of someone else.
This happens to so many of us.
We get caught in the desire to win others’ approval that we lose sight of why we are doing something in the first place.
So with whatever goals you are currently pursuing,
Make sure they are for YOU.
Not for THEM.
When you focus on…
Your own growth.
What you really want.
The life YOU are creating.
You’ll find that people tend to give you the approval you were always looking for.
Happy Friday everyone!
Your friend,
