I spent 10 years repeating the same mistake (so you don’t have to)
When I was first starting out, I’d judge my performance on 2 variables:
1. How I felt about it.
2. How I felt OTHERS thought about it.
What’s crazy… is that #2 would always override #1.
I’d care FAR more about what other people thought than about what I thought.
I’d base my performance (and confidence) on the external world.
I gave the keys to my confidence to everyone else.
Failing the realize that it was a losing strategy.
I’d never feel confident if I was chasing approval outside of myself.
I realized that I needed to…
Let go of the opinions of others.
Focus on being authentically me.
Root my confidence in my progress, not in my perfection.
Sounds easy, right?
Not quite.
For most of us, this is a battle.
It is HARD to be yourself.
It is HARD to let go of judgement.
It is HARD to just ‘not care what people think.’
But it’s possible. All it takes is a little bit of courage.
It is a work in progress. I’m still a work in progress.
And maybe you are as well.
But in my opinion, that is what real growth is about.
It isn’t about achieving perfection, it’s about being obsessed with progress.
Just 1% better.
1% more authentic.
1% more YOU.
THAT my friends, creates a completely different life.
Best,
Juan Bendana
P.S. Are we friends yet?
