I wake up at 5am each morning.
I drink a full bottle of water.
Then head to the gym.
As much as I’d like to say I’m running toward a goal. If I’m honest… A part of me is running away.
From the person I used to be.
When I was 19, I went through a sudden break-up. That flipped my self-worth on its head.
The only place I could find comfort? Food. A lot of it. It started with over eating.
Which got progressively worse. I developed binge eating disorder.
I would eat past the point of full. I just couldn’t stop. I was trying to fill a void.
And clearly, My strategy wasn’t really working.
That went on for about 6 months.
That’s all it took to balloon to 75lbs overweight. Medically obese. I knew something needed to change.
But I first needed to believe that who I am TODAY didn’t determine who I could be TOMORROW.
I started doing things with the vision of my potential. Not the reality of my circumstance.
And slowly but surely… Things got better. I started to improve. And move my life in the right direction.
10 years later, I still have moments were that old version of me comes up.
But they’re no longer in the driver’s seat.
The Ancient one from Dr.Strange said: “We never get rid of our demons, we simply learn to live above them.”
Whether those demons are:
- Weight
- Rejection
- Credit Card Debt
- Losing a job
Whatever it is.
Remember that those things do not define who you are and what you can become. You do.
A reminder than who you are today is not a determination of who you will be tomorrow.
Every day doesn’t need to be perfect. You don’t need to be on your “A game” every day of the week.
Do your best. But, don’t beat yourself up ‘when’ you fall short. (which you will)
Give yourself some grace.
There is always tomorrow. Success is a marathon. Not a sprint.
So keep going my friend 🙏🏼
