Most people build their confidence backwards.
And it is actually hurting their progress.
I always thought that you gained confidence by:
- Being really good at something
- Getting acknowledgement
- Achieving great things
So naturally…
That’s what I tried to do.
I’d go ALL OUT to try and ‘be enough’
I’d achieve the goal.
Get good at something.
Get praise for it.
But then?
Nothing.
Empty.
In fact, I felt worse.
About my progress.
About my results.
About myself.
Why?
Because ‘it wasn’t enough.’
I wanted more.
It created a feeling of lack.
I had it backwards.
Confidence doesn’t come from the end result.
If you’ve ever achieved something and thought:
“Is this it?”
Then you know what I’m talking about.
Confidence actually comes from the:
- Action you take
- Being in the process
- Acknowledging how far you’ve come
So I need you to do me a big favour:
Stop focusing on:
—> Having enough expertise
—> Getting praise
—> Achieving goals
They won’t make you feel better about yourself.
Or more confident.
We can’t wait for these to happen.
Confident people reverse engineer their self-esteem.
They consistently:
1 - Do it before they’re ready.
2 - Give themselves praise.
3 - Focus on the work.
Be the kind of person that finds confidence in the work.
In the daily process.
In the journey of growth.
When you do, the way you see yourself will change for the better.
What are the most effective ways you build confidence?
