Instagram LogoWe've been told to work hard and never give up if we ever want to be successful. It's a good advice but incomplete. It's okay to work hard but what 99% of successful people don't mention is that someone introduced them to a circle, took a chance on them or sponsored/pumped millions into their business. Really, all it takes is that one person who believes in you and what you do and they are ready to do what it takes to take you far. In some cases, the real question becomes "What are you willing to do to get to where you are? How far can you go?" Imagine someone tells you "Use my money. Build 80 stores globally. I want you to own the entire chain in your industry. Crush your competitor. Be the CEO and Co-founder. We spilt profit. Let's make billions." But when you are interviewed and asked how you made it, you say "It's hard work and the willingness to never give up." That's what a lot of successful people do. I encourage you to keep building your business and also document your truth. Your ego is important but also think about those coming after you who'd need to learn to navigate the business world. You'll cut the stress in half by telling the truth. Thinking about it now, in the book - 5am Club - the wealthy man was the plug to the success of the entrepreneur and the artist. He took interest in them, taught them, showed them, exposed them, groomed them till he was satisfied with the result. Guys, network more and pray for your lucky-charm-one-person. Also, keep your eyes open to know when they arrive or are in the same room with you. Most importantly, groom yourself to become who they will be interested in. #Business #businesswoman #businessowner #media #mediagirl #digitalmarketing #digitalmedia #mediabusiness #entrepreneurship #entrepreneur #entrepreneurlife #netflix #movie
Instagram LogoYour brand is really sensitive and if you aren't careful, you may just be telling a different story. This post is for people who can't just do one thing. I'm in that league too. I've read all sorts of articles on how to handle being multi talented or being interested in ⠀ different things. ⠀ ⠀ Well, this is what I decided to do with myself (personal brand) and my many interests. ⠀ ⠀ I asked myself "WHAT'S THAT ONE THING YOU WANT TO BE KNOWN FOR IN THE NEXT 10 YEARS?" ⠀ ⠀ My answer: Media. I want to be that African girl ⠀ disrupting the media space using technology. ⠀ ⠀ Good. I looked at all I do and they match. In fact, it helped me stop doing business like a hustler. If you'll build an empire, there are times you will need to be all by yourself doing the work that needs to be done. Lonely shit! ⠀ ⠀ Then the next question: For your interests, how do you intend to drive it since you'll be busy with the media outfit. ⠀ ⠀ The answer: ⠀ ⠀ ?? If it doesn't align with what you do (this isn't ⠀ necessary if you want a side business) ⠀ ?? If it is capital intensive ⠀ ?? If you don't have a partner or team to run the business ⠀ ?? If it's going to be time consuming⠀ ⠀ ?write it down in your journal and leave it there. ⠀ ⠀ I made the mistake once of launching a food business and used my personal brand to push it. Did it work? Yes but I left people confused. I had to do quick reputation management for my personal brand. ⠀ ⠀ I currently run other side businesses but I don't push with my personal brand especially at this early stage. ⠀ ⠀ Media. Tech. Business. Digital Marketing. Personal Branding. These are the things you'd keep hearing from me. ⠀ ⠀ So what did I do instead? I invested in running ads. You probably have bought from me without knowing it ⠀ was me ? ⠀ ⠀ In the future, maybe 10 years from now, when my bio is being read to you, you'll be shocked. Mrs Ibukun Awosika's bio had that effect on me. Many think First Bank is all there is to her but it's not. ⠀ ⠀ So if you currently work in an industry and you have interests in other things, you can try this and see what works for you. ⠀ ⠀ #Business #personalbranding #personalbrand ⠀ #entrepreneur #entrepreneur
Instagram LogoI'd first of all tell you that if you get interns without putting your business in order, they'll run away. It happened to me years back. You see, it's like you trying to roof a house that you haven't built. You'd be wasting your time. You know your business is ready when you are becoming overwhelmed with activities within the business such that it isn't letting you engage with your money making activities or maybe you have been stuck in a place for a while. Then you need help. Do this: 1. List out all the roles you will need to run your business. I had to go into the future for this one. 2. Now that you have written them all out. Tick the roles you need now to move your business. 3. State the duties and responsibilities of each role. In fact, also write out the salary they would have been paid as of today if you had the money. Set the KPI too. Will this role be virtual or physical? State it all here. 4. State who these roles will report to in a well structured company. We all know it's you they'll report to for now. 5. Clearly state what these interns will benefit working with you. Guys, this is important. I've personally enjoyed working with great folks who have gone ahead to do big things. I brag about this a lot. So what super power do you have that will make your interns better than they came. Write it down. 6. Create your onboarding process. From interview stage to the very moment they begin work. You say you want to be a brand on the big league? You can't avoid this. Your onboarding process doesn't have to tedious, too long or complicated. 7. Just before you go ahead and announce you need interns, you have to commit to giving them value and also trust them to learn and deliver on tasks you give them. At Bcon, we call it the ownership mentality. We allow interns explore. This is from my experience and I hope it helps you too. #Business #MyJourney #media #mediagirl #womeninbusiness #womeninmedia #entrepreneurship #entrepreneurlife #BuildingABusinessIsNotForTheFaintHearted #ItsDoableIfYouCommit
Instagram LogoIf anyone told you that starting a business was your sure way to wealth, just listen and don’t run off to quit your job yet. One of the things I wish I did early was to get a job. I started entrepreneurship at the age of 18 and never looked back. Internship and volunteering are things I still explore till date. In fact, I tried to apply for a job but it never worked out. I remember one of the companies telling me outrightly that they couldn’t afford me after reading my CV. Since then, I decided to face this entrepreneurship thing. Entrepreneurship comes with its own spec of troubles, sometimes you’ll wonder if your village people are working overnight. But the process remains the blessing. There is something about time in entrepreneurship that you can’t jump. You must do the time and for every level unlocked, there is something that happens with your mind. I don’t know if it’s age or still a function of time and experience. Not everyone can endure what comes with entrepreneurship. If you have a job, stay there and do your thing unless you have some serious money somewhere. You can run a side gig if your job permits you or go into partnership with someone (be careful here though). So many entrepreneurs look like “it” on the gram. Don’t forget it’s part of they owe themselves. To dress the way they want to be addressed. The real ones look good but they don’t forget that they have to put in the work. It’s left for you to choose which side of the coin you belong. #entrepreneurship #entrepreneurlife #entrepreneur #media #mediagirl #womeninbusiness #womeninmedia #digitalmedia
