“Companies need to tear down the silos. Employees who collaborate with colleagues from different areas of expertise can learn, sell, and develop skills more quickly.”

— The Generalist’s Advantage

The Hidden Risk That’s Breaking Great Teams Apart

You can have brilliant people in every department… and still miss the mark.

Why? Because they’re rowing in different directions.

Disconnection is more dangerous than disruption.

And the worst part? Most leaders don’t see it until it’s too late.

Here’s what it looks like in practice:

  • Sales closes deals no one can fulfill
  • Product builds features marketing doesn’t understand
  • Finance kills projects without knowing why they matter

It’s not about malice or incompetence. It’s about isolation.

People working hard—just not together.

But you don’t fix that with another all-hands meeting.

You fix it by building connective tissue into the culture:

  • Let employees shadow other departments
  • Identify and empower “translators” who bridge teams
  • Make collaboration the default, not the exception

Innovation doesn’t come from alignment on paper. It comes from shared experience.
