Weekly Team Leader Tip: Stay In Your Lane
Apr 29, 2025 1:01 pm
“Staying within the confines of your department, even if you’re disruptive, may not lead to significant progress.”
— The Generalist’s Advantage
“Stay In Your Lane” Is the Worst Advice We Still Give
“Stay in your lane.”
It sounds responsible.
Safe. Respectful, even.
But in business? It’s the fastest way to shrink the possibilities.
The best solutions almost never come from one discipline.
They come from the collision of ideas across marketing and engineering.
Brand and finance. Strategy and customer service.
When people step out of their lane, they start seeing the system.
And when they see the system, they start solving differently.
Encourage lane-changing. Celebrate crossovers.
Because the future of work isn’t rigid. It’s relational.
