Ramblings from the Desk of J. Morgyn White
April has come and almost vanished. I can’t believe that Demons is already out in the world for a whole month. The launch went incredibly well and I busily became adept at Luxe box and Paperback fulfillment. Our mail lady is now my bestie, and I finally mastered the USPS mailing list software. Huzzah!
I’ve sold out of the luxe boxes twice and the final box is in the shop this weekend. After that there will be no more. BUT I’ve been a busy designer and come up with a new shiny Purple Power Box for the remaining limited edition paperbacks. It will have all of the 8 new sticker designs (including vampire kitty, and shaped black/white Sorrel & Ranth stickers!) as well as new the character art cards and the much sought after full-color Book of Shadows notebook.
New Character Art!
I’ve been holding back Demons for Breakfast art - and so the very last piece you get to see first.
Here is Fabra, the antagonist in Demons for Breakfast, done by the incredible hand of @amuk_art.
Instagram Giveaway!
New art cards and stickers along with a signed limited edition paperback are up for a giveaway. Keep an eye out on Instagram today for the post and details on how to enter.
The future me.
Valravyn (my urban fantasy series set in a near-future New York City with mages and politics) edits are fully under way and the book one is due to the editor May 10th. Will that be the next release? This is what we all want to know. I think by the end of May I should be in a place to make the decision. I’ve also dusted off another manuscript which is in the running for what’s next in 2026. What I can say is whatever is next will be a fall release at the earliest, mainly because it takes that long to get the edits, art, cover, and marketing in place.
What I’m Reading.
I’ve been judging submissions for two romance contests, so my reading time for pleasure had been limited this month. I’ve started The Poison Daughter by Sheila Masterson this week and I can say the opening is fantastic. I’m looking forward to reading more.
Don’t Miss.
Season 2 of The Artful Dodger on Hulu just dropped and while it’s a light style plot, I’m utterly enthralled with David Thewlis’ portrayal of Fagin. The 1850s Australia setting is a great background to the evolution of medicine plot and the romance is adorable. I hope we get a season 3.
Costume dramas are my #1 guilty pleasure and as you may recall I mentioned The Forsythe Saga (Prime-PBS) . The remake, The Forsythes (Prime-PBS) arrived last month and it does not disappoint. The actor, Danny Griffin, who plays Joloyn Forsythe reminds me of a young Henry Cavil and I adore Eleanor Tomlinson (from Poldark) who is cast opposite him.
As always I’ll leave you with a snippet of writing.

It Wasn’t Dead.
J. Morgyn White
You can’t really believe what people say. The house has been there as long as I remember and my grandma even talks about it sometimes. There were parties there way back when. When the rich people still lived there. I like to think of it as a house the people loved. Now it hurts to walk by it and see the shutters hanging and the holes in the roof where the crows nest. Even the tree in front died. It’s like it knew no one cared.
But I care. I mean It’s not mine to care about but if it was I would have cared for it.
The hauntings, well I think that’s a load of crap. No one comes back from the dead. If they did, my pa would be haunting the heck out of ma. I mean she killed him. Plunged the knife so deep and rough over and over that they couldn’t even see he had a heart when she was done. Dog food they said it looked like. Ground meat. He would have haunted her if he could. That’s how I know there are no such things as ghosts.
