Hey !
Spring reminds us of renewal, energy and gentle transitions.🍃
Which is why making sure our physical and mental health are in tune with seasonal and bodily rhythms (sleep cycle, digestion etc.) are especially important this time of year!
No need for fancy treatments but focusing on gentle, natural detox habits are less invasive and will actually support your body through this seasonal change.
#1 Sleep Hygiene😴
Tying in your sleep cycles with sunlight will help to regulate the body's internal clock, the circadian rhythm. This includes getting sun exposure when possible during the day, so that your body knows it needs to be alert, as opposed to grabbing that second coffee.
#2 Movement Habits🚶🏽➡️
Waking up the spine for spring. Gradually increasing load and tension when getting back to activities is crucial to maintain spinal health and avoid injuries.
#3 Hydration Levels💧
PSA: Drinking coffees and teas do not count as hydration! If you feel thirsty, you are already dehyrated. A quick indicator is checking in on your urine colour: Light is right, dark means drink.
#4 Habit Stacking🪥
An effective way to remember doing your chiropractic exercises *wink wink* is to stack that habit with an existing one! I like to use the "brushing the teeth" one, since we do it at least once/twice a day! Pull out those ankle stability exercises as you brush your theeth and your ankles will thank you :)
#5 Hormonal Health📈
Make friends with your hormones by regulating your nervous system. Your body already has everything it needs to run well, we just need to create a better environment! Some ways are by managing stress levels, eating meals at the same times daily or adding in more movement, like a walk post-meal, can greatly improve stress responses, blood sugar control and your metabolism.
💬 Have you checked your desk set-up recently?
If you haven't or already did in the past, it never hurts to objectively look at your set-up once in a while to see where it can improve. This can drastically improve your posture and decrease chances of experiencing back pain.

What I’m Seeing in Practice This Spring 🌷
Every season has its main conditions, but recently I have been seeing more of:
- 🦶 Ankle impingement - your foot and ankle has to transition from ankle high winter boots to sneakers, or your may be walking outside alot more
- 🪑Tight hips - prolonged sitting can cause deep hip flexors and glute external rotators to contribute to low back pain
- 📱Tech neck - Increased screen time stiffens up the muscles of the cervical spine
- ❄️Post-winter stiffness - general body stiffness from lack of movement
- 👩🏼🍼Tongue- and lip-ties - some little ones need more help as they have difficulty breastfeeding due to intra-oral tethered tissues
