Back to School, Buying Non-Premeditated Cats, and Click!

August is here! Which means back to school.

Lots of parents rejoice in this, but to be honest, it's a real struggle for me and I'm always a little sad the first week. To make matters more sad-for-mom, we had a vacation with my college kids and then afterwards they left me too. Can you believe they had the nerve to leave their mother and go back to their jobs? Gah!

However, to make things just a little more exciting, while my college daughter was here, we went to the humane society for "fun" and "just to look" because she likes cats a lot, but can't have one in her apartment.

And... you know how this story ends, right?

We found this cute little tortie and decided to bring her home. Now, we've already got one cat and if you're a cat owner, you know that cats take a little... incorporating. They're not like most dogs who have a nice bark and a sniff and are like, "Yeah, your bum smells nice. I like you. Let's play ball." With cats, there's a lot of hissing and hiding and adjusting. In this case, the older cat is kind of a scaredy cat, so she wants to be the tough one, but she usually just hisses and then hides under the bed. The younger one just wants to be buddies, but may end up as the boss. And I'm trying to make both of them feel safe and get out from under the dang bed. (Come on, though. Look how cute she is.)

As far as bookish news (oh, yeah, I write books. I don't just vacation and do back-to-school shopping and buy cats unexpectedly), the proof of the paperback for Click arrived and it looks really nice.

If you'd like to pre-order the ebook, you can find it HERE.

Incidentally, when I went to look at Amazon, third-party sellers had set up a listing for my book through Amazon. I think this is technically legal (they'll wait for your order and then order it for a discount--which takes profit from me--from the distributor that has my books and then sell it to you ), but it makes me ragingly angry. So I'd ask you not to buy through them. If you want a book early, contact me and I'll get you one!

This is part of the learning curve for me, alas.

This month's recipe is eating a chocolate bar (dark chocolate; I haven't given up entirely...) and surviving the next couple of weeks. I've got one kid trying out for volleyball and one kid trying out for the musical. And if neither of those things works out, I've got...well, learning about life, and also lots of tears. My college kids will be heading back to their respective cities in a month and getting back to school (they've both been working over the summer).

So, eat some chocolate for me and wish me (and them) luck. If I manage to get on a single ball, I'll try to get you a lovely chocolate recipe next newsletter!
