Funness is ensuing!!!

(Subliminal message: Back my Kickstarter)

Also: Be warned that I wax philosophical first. If you want to just jump to funness, go to the bold bits.

My Kickstarter launched this afternoon and I cannot tell you what a terrifying thing it is. Since it is "crowdfunding" (basically asking a "crowd" if they consider your project worth backing), it is fertile ground for public humiliation. What if it doesn't fund? What if it nobody sees it? What if people DO see it and nobody cares about it? What if people think it's dumb? What if people think I'm dumb?

That whole sort of thing.

I couldn't eat more than a few bites of lunch, I was so nervous.

And then it launched and for a few precious minutes nothing happened. And that evil little voice in my head said, "Told you this was a dumb idea." Could someone murder that voice please?

And then someone backed it--the ebook tier for $5--and I just wanted to give them the biggest hug. And then more people backed it. And it's moving along and getting backers. And my heart feels happy.

Though it's a strange thing to be an artist. Because you have to be able to say, "I do this for me, because it matters to me, and because...it just matters. Even if it doesn't matter to you. And even if that doesn't always make my heart happy."

But you also want to be able to say, "Since I believe this matters, I would love to share it with you, and I would love for it to matter to you too." But then it might not matter, or it might not matter as much.

It's a risk we take with each shared piece of art. And it can hurt when it doesn't matter much to someone else. But still we create it--sometimes just because it matters to us and sometimes because we continue to have hope that it will also matter to someone else.

And, boy howdy, does Kickstarter bring a lot of that fear and insecurity to the surface.

And now I'm waxing philosophical. Instead of doing what I'm supposed to be doing, which is shout at you about how cool it would be if you backed my Kickstarter.

And it IS cool.

Here's one cool reason why. If you back within the first 48 hours (even with just $1), you--or anyone you choose--will have your name included in the Acknowledgments section of my book. I mean, it's kind of fun, right?

So... Back my Kickstarter!

And... get your name included in the acknowledgments!!!

A little hook for the book:

Two twin brothers, in trouble at school.

One mute foster sister, in trouble in life.

A two-hundred-piece puzzle that could fix it all.

But only if they solve it in time.

If they don’t, well then, the next body that surfaces might be one of their own.
